Compatible with the most recent Leader Pass update (March 29). Civilization balance is not complete until Civilizations Expanded mod is updated. Significant removals and additions to the modlist have been made, so it is strongly recommended to follow the (re)installation procedure for all returning users.

Carefully curated mod list for Civilization VI. Every mod in the list has been vetted to work together with no conflicts (see below for various fixes you must make to ensure a seamless experience). This collection is loosely inspired by Civilization V's Vox Populi overhaul (Officially known as the Community Balance Patch) to the extent that it is possible. I have been actively maintaining this collection for more than three years, so satisfaction and stability is guaranteed ( or your money back? :)

This mod list will overhaul the game with many quality of life improvements, UI improvements, gameplay fixes, tweaks, and changes, as well as certain overhauls of the AI, mechanics, and difficulty to make Civ VI a more rewarding, challenging, and fun experience. My longtime critique of the game is that it is too easy, especially with diplomacy exploits and the importance of the Ancient-Classical Era in determining victory in the game. This just improves the game on all fronts, from my experience playing Civ V and Civ VI regularly.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING
  • This mod collection requires all DLC, including all leader packs, Rise & Fall, Gathering Storm, and the New Frontier Pass.

  • This mod list recommends you run the game on DirectX12, but you may switch to DirectX11 if you experience issues such as intermittent crashes occurring.

  • The mods work for Single Player and Multiplayer games.

  • All mods utilize English text. If you use another language, you will have to individually check mod pages to see if there is a localization for your language.

  • You can click on "Subscribe To All" to easily install every mod. Of course, some mods may not be to your liking, and you are free to pick and choose.

  • All mods here are modular with the exception of a few mods (detailed below) or mods that share similar names .

  • If you have issues, or if you have an older version of the modlist, you will need to perform a clean installation procedure:

    1. Unsubscribe to all mods, through your Steam Profile's 'Subscribed Items' page.
    2. Clear the Civ VI workshop folder (...\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\289070)
    3. Validate your game files through Steam (Right Click Civilization VI on Steam - Properties - Local Files - Verify Integrity of Game Files)
    4. Remove game caches at the following location:
      My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization VI/Mods.sqlite
      My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization VI/cache.

  • Some fixes may have to be reapplied if a mod is updated. Sort your subscribed mods by date to check which were updated recently.

  • Please leave any issues or feedback you may have! Don't be shy! I want to make this list as perfect and bug free as possible, and your feedback does help constantly evolve this list.

IMPORTANT STEPS: COMPLETE THESE TASKS BEFORE PLAYING

1. Subscribe to all mods or whichever mods you prefer. Have Steam open to let the mod content download. Move on to step two when all workshop content downloads are complete.

2. Navigate to the following folder path:

Some Mod Specific Notes

Radiant AI Combat Tweaks
If you want the Computer opponents to receive innate combat bonuses and extra starting units on higher difficulties against the player (you), please remove the 'Radiant AI Combat Tweaks' mod from your active mod list. Please see the mod description on guidance for tweaking the many options to AI advantages in combat.

Shuffle++ and Nere's Seven Seas
This modlist is highly recommended to play with the 'Shuffle' and 'Seven Seas' map scripts. They are two of the most balanced and replayable maps, modified by the modlist to enhance map generation and further increase the fun factor of the maps. All other map scripts are viable to play and have not been modified.

Late Game AI
This mod removes all difficulties below 'Prince' and adds 'Pro' and 'Insane' as difficulties above Deity. Remove the mod if you would not like a harder game that makes AI more competitive late in the game.

Expanded Initial Vision
If you do not agree with my 4 tile vision radius when starting a new game, but would still like extended vision, the radius can be changed in ExpandedInitialVision.lua. The file is located in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\289070/970242434
Default is a 7 tile radius. I personally use 4 tile radius for optimal balance.

UI-Main Menu-Civilization Background
You can change the music by replacing the .wem file with the song of your choice, or revert to Civilization VI's main default theme "Sogno Di Volare" by simply deleting the .wem file. Navigate to the following file path:

Automated Builders + Archaeologists Reloaded
This mod is very useful for "background" builder improvements, when it is not necessary to optimize building. Then you can customize your empire with most boring stuff already done.

Please keep in mind:
  • You should not use auto-build if you are a complete beginner or in very early game, as the purpose of this mod is mostly to save time when you have many cities.
  • Avoid selecting builders while passing to the next turn, as the game may become unstable.
  • Builders do not automatically build Ski Resorts.
  • Builders do not care for their safety, including enemies and nuclear contamination (which they do not clean).

Builder / Military Engineer lag fix (with hotkey)
This mod fixes late-game builder / military engineer lag, and can be (de-)activated in-game with the key "J" while a builder or military engineer is selected. Check full mod info.

CQUI Community Quick User Interface
When purchasing tiles, you may have to click twice in order to buy a tile. This is fully intended as part of the CQUI mod. It is to prevent accidental tile purchasing that can inadvertently occur when dragging around the city management screen or by another accident.

Extended Diplomacy Ribbon/Better Leader Icon
All of these mods must be used in tandem or you WILL have interface issues. If you do not want to play with all these mods, you will need to disable Better Leader Icon to ensure compatibility. You can have the extended vanilla-like version of the leader icons, which displays all stats (military strength, gold, faith, etc.) by changing the appropriate setting in the "Interface Options" -> "Show Yield in HUD Ribbon".
