Heavy-Lift Container Transport Aircraft
The Albatross is a heavy-lift transport aircraft designed for independence and operational flexibility. Featuring a unique opening nose and tail configuration, this sealed aircraft can accommodate three ISO containers using its integrated self-loading crane system for rapid deployment and retrieval operations.

Built for extreme versatility, the Albatross combines container transport with emergency water landing capabilities and parachute deployment capability. Four powerful engines and specialized rear heavy-duty landing gear enable operations from short, rough airstrips and challenging terrain.

Perfect for extended missions, this transport features full crew quarters, comprehensive maintenance access, and single-pilot operation capability. Whether delivering critical supplies or supporting complex operations, the Albatross adapts to any mission requirement. Or you can make it your own by replacing the container-crane and modifying the spacious interior to your liking and mission.

This vehicle offers:
  • Top speed of 480 km/h
  • Four custom diesel-powered Saturn Engines with Automatic Engine Controls
  • Crew size: 1-4
  • Carries 1-3 ISO containers
  • Retractable landing gear
  • Altitude and heading hold as well as map-based autopilot
  • Radar, sonar and transponder triangulator
  • Comprehensive lighting (search light, position, landing, anti-collision, interior, standby, warning lights)
  • Multiple roof access points and engine maintenance access for each engine
  • Reserve fuel tanks and auxiliary fuel tank
  • Small generator that can be manually started if needed (GPU)
  • Automatic heaters (arctic ready)
  • Living quarters with two beds, kitchen, toilet, shower and more
  • Jump room with exit ramp for skydiving or emergency escapes
  • Lockable exterior access
  • Sealed interior space that allows for emergency water landings and take-offs
  • Plenty of equipment for different scenarios
  • ...and much more!

Works well with this container-sized container-moving vehicle: The Schildkröte by EINSCHLAG

Quick Start Procedure
  1. Make sure the vehicle is powered and "Avionics" are enabled
  2. Sit in the pilot’s seat
  3. Flip on the fuel pumps switch in the center console or enable the reserve fuel
  4. Flip on the automatic engine control switches in the center console
  5. Release the brakes
  6. Slowly drive out of the hangar using the engines
  7. Extend the wings and rudder with the flip switch in the center console
  8. Fly off and retract the landing gear

Manual Startup Procedure
  1. Make sure the vehicle is powered and "Avionics" are enabled
  2. Sit in the pilot's seat
  3. Activate both engines using the "Engine (Engine 1)" and "Engine (Engine 2)" switches
  4. Engage propellers via "Engage Propeller (Engine 1)" and "Engage Propeller (Engine 2)" switches
  5. Power up generators using "Generator (Engine 1)" and "Generator (Engine 2)" switches
  6. Enable "Full Speed"-Buttons for Engine 1 and Engine 2
  7. Release the brakes
  8. Slowly drive out of the hangar using the engines
  9. Extend the wings and rudder with the flip switch in the center console
  10. Fly off and retract the landing gear

How to transport containers
  1. Open the front or rear cargo door (or both)
  2. Wait for the cargo ramp(s) to extend if needed
  3. Use the remote control or control handles to operate the crane
  4. Extend the crane out through the open cargo door
  5. Position an ISO container below the crane with proper orientation
  6. Enable both the container's top connectors and the crane's connectors
  7. Lower the crane to pick up the container (it will auto-lift slightly)
  8. Fully raise the container and move it to the desired position inside the plane
  9. Enable the container's bottom connectors and the plane's floor connectors to lock in place
  10. Disable the crane's connectors to release
  11. Repeat for additional containers, or reverse these steps to unload
  12. Before closing cargo doors, ensure the crane is fully retracted inside (it will lock into designated positions)

Main Refueling Instructions
  1. Connect fuel hose to the port on the underside of the fuselage
  2. Pump fuel to fill the auxiliary tank (Enable "Free Flow" or "Pump IN" on the instrument panel near the port)
  3. In the cockpit, flip the "Auxiliary Fuel Tank to Wing Fuel Tanks" switch (center dashboard)
  4. Once all tanks are filled, disconnect the hose
  5. If you need to balance the tanks, there are controls for that on the right wall of the cockpit

Want to slow down the propellers after engine shutdown? Just engage the propeller and generator for the propeller you want to slow down.

Need to bring one more container? Check out the Hummel VTOL.

Why are the wings so back? It doesn't seem really aerodynamic

@resyn didn’t notice you had made updates already, I’ll definitely try the new version when I get time.

@Resyn , thanks for the reply, but there seems to be a constant pull to one side with symmetrical engines on the ground. Even when the engines have been shut down and the front cargo door has been opened for loading, I find the aircraft moving away from where I’m placing the cargo, to the point I have to push the cargo to the side in order to align with the interior crane.

I don't know how you managed to make such a big plane fly so smooth and the controls so snappy and easy to fly and land with stormworks's absolutely cooked physics, but well done. Truly one of the best stormworks planes I've used so far.

@renay.clark54 Hahaha :'D
Drift safe then! :shakinghands:

I've also added a section about refueling to the description above.

@viper There was none - sorry about that! I might have removed them when I last overhauled the auxiliary fuel tank.

I've updated the plane with refueling ports:

Wing tanks: Passive ports on top of the landing gear housings
Main refueling: Port on the fuselage underside with a pumping setup. Fill the auxiliary tank here, then use the "Auxiliary Fuel Tank to Wing Fuel Tanks" switch in the cockpit center dashboard to transfer fuel to the wings. This is the easiest method.
Cargo Bay Port: I've also added a passive IN/OUT port in the center of the cargo bay (if you want to transport containers carrying extra fuel).

If you're already stranded with the old version: You can refuel by connecting hoses directly to each engine's (they have a hose for their fuel supply preattached). Just enable the reserve tanks and pump fuel into the engines individually. Hope that helps!
