If you want to manually take care of yourself, you can use the following console command while playing as your character in Normandy:
effect struggle:RICE_normandy_struggle ?= { set_faith_as_involved = root.faith }
Adjust your Windows virtual memory settings by opening Advanced System Settings, going to Performance Settings, then the Advanced tab, clicking Change under Virtual Memory, unchecking "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives," and setting a custom size for your desired drive. Mine are set at 40,000 for both min and max.
Here's some commentary:
By now I forget exactly the mechanism behind why it works but I have had a single crash in 3 months when before I'd be getting at least one every hour. I believe the issue stems from the way CK3 allocates system memory while saving files where it basically overdraws available system memory, leading to a crash. This is also why the crashes can corrupt save files which is extra annoying.
Hope this works for you and anyone else who needs help.
@Wulfhund: I think merchant republics would require dedicated mechanics beyond struggles/situations, as the latter are more vehicles for organizing mechanics and flavor in a logical narrative. There have been several mods that did stuff related to merchant republics since the game's release. To my knowledge, the first major one was Res Pubica , which was strongly inspired by CK2's republics, but the modder behind it is no longer active; more recently, there was Golden Dominion which uses Roads to Power's landless/estate system, it seems most recently updated to 1.16.
Is the modding community holding back and waiting for Paradox to deliver an improved economic system before anyone tries to tackle it?
It seems like such a shame so far along in the development of the game that merchant powers have been neglected.
@polmont Generally it's not good idea to disable mods partway through a save. If you added this partway through a save that's not advisable as that may cause issues; if you didn't, CTDs are notoriously hard to diagnose especially if you're using a lot of mods. One thing that helps sometimes is to go back to an earlier save, such as from 3 or 5 years before, and make sure you do completely different things, and seeing if that helps.
@Годрик Сторукий: Thanks! I do hope to do something in Carpathia and the Balkans eventually. But probably not until next year, as I will be focused on stuff related to AUH for the near term.
I had you friended but I made my steam fully private a few weeks ago.
I would like to refriend you as that was a mistake xD
I will add you and RICE flavor pack to the Attributed Credits database.
Besides that, I've also uploaded a new mini-mod called More East African Clothing Variety, check it out here: Vanilla Version | EPE Version
@太初龙之魂 Probably not in the near term since I hope to do Mayo sometime soon for Ireland, but I do want to do more flavor packs for the British Isles and Celtic regions in the far future.
Hi, can the EU5: Extended Timeline team implement content from this mod accredited, thank you for any answer!
I am a big fan of of your work all the way back to 2012 when it started
@arisalh108 I am hoping for an update in the next week or two. However, most people who've tried seem to run the current version of RICE okay with 1.17 without major issues. Try running with only RICE and no other mods, not even cosmetic mods, and seeing if that helps. (Though keep in mind once the update's out it will not be savegame compatible.)
@Edgestylez From what I've heard, people have been able to run the mod okay without an official update, the only known bug being that RICE's new religions won't get a coronation doctrine, so you might be able to run it, though do so at your own risk as it's possible there are bugs that don't show up properly so I can't guarantee it'll be fine. However, when I put out the official update to 1.17 along with the Nubia Flavor Pack (hopefully in a week or two), it will not be compatible with old saves, so do keep that in mind. Though you can always use the manual install of older versions of the mod to continue an old save.
@IronSightKid Usually when something like that happens it's due to an issue with a graphics mod, or a mod incompatibility. Try with *only* RICE running and no other mods on a completely new game and see if that helps.
@DirtyT @leonpol Yeah generally if you're a veteran mod user you kind of have an idea of what might work and what might not work with an update, and you're more aware of running things at your own risk . I usually just default to recommending caution since not everyone's a mod veteran to avoid getting spammed with false alarm bug reports from people not realizing the mod isn't fully up to date yet lol.
