9A83M Long-Range SAM TELAR (Buk-M3 Network)

The 9A83/9A83M series is the tracked transporter-erector-launcher and radar (TELAR) of the S-300V / S-300VM “Antey-2500” long-range surface-to-air and anti-ballistic missile system (NATO: SA-12/SA-23 Gladiator/Giant). Designed by Almaz-Antey for the Russian Ground Forces, S-300V entered service in the late 1980s and was later deeply modernized into the S-300VM and S-300V4 generations.

In the S-300VM “Antey-2500” configuration, the 9A83M TELAR carries four 9M83M/ME missiles in large vertical transport-launch containers and integrates its own engagement radar at the front of the vehicle, allowing it to search, track and guide missiles independently. The system is intended to defeat aircraft, cruise missiles and especially short- and medium-range ballistic missiles at distances out to roughly 200–250 km and altitudes up to 30 km, depending on missile and target type.

S-300V-family brigades can be integrated with Buk-series medium-range systems under a higher-level command post (9S52 Polyana-D4), forming layered air- and missile-defence groupings.

In game, the 9A83M is represented as the long-range top tier of a network that also includes Buk-M3 and Tor-M2, all sharing a compatible datalink architecture.

In game, the 9A83M is a Long Range Surface to Air Missile, sitting above Buk-M3 in the air-defence hierarchy. It is armed with 4 heavy missiles fitting Impact fuses (small warhead) and Proxy fuse (medium warhead), being the only missiles in the Buk-M3 Battalion capable of shooting down other missiles. It also features two modes of launch depending on how close the target is.

The vehicle is also fitted with an electro optical system capable of Tracking up to 8 km for slow moving targets and 4 km for fast moving targets, though being unreliable for fast moving targets.

All vehicles have implemented a system that if target is lost it will continue leading the target based on its last known coordinates
