CONTEXT:

It is the year 1280 AD, in the deeply wooded and ancient lands of Old Livonia.

After almost a century of crusade, the Livonian Brothers of the Sword, now merged into the Teutonic Order, have almost completed the Christianization of the region. Only a final campaign remains to be launched.

South of the Daugava river, the rebellious Zemgali tribes prepare for war. They are the last of the Pagans in open defiance to the Order, and deep in the dark woods of the region, they worship their sacred groves. To the west, the Kursi tribe had been subdued, but now threaten to revolt, inspired by their neighbors. The Livonian Order still holds control of key settlements in Kursi land, strongly garrisoned but isolated from the rest of their territories.

In the towns of Riga and Hapsal, the places of Pagan worship have been torn down, with churches erected in their stead. However, while the southernmost city thrives on commerce, the Bishopric of Ösel-Wiek faces a terrible threat: the Pagan islanders, who call themselves “Saarlased”, have ceased control of the islands west of Hapsal, and now threaten to sail to the episcopal city itself.

The stage is set for a final confrontation between the Crusading powers and the native Pagan tribes who inhabit the region, and the upcoming actions will decide whether Old Livonia will surrender to Christianity, or will remain Pagan.

BALANCE WARNING: The different factions of the campaign are not balanced, and are not supposed to be. Each faction should deliver a different experience, both in territorial distribution and in difficulty. More information in the “GAMEPLAY” section.

REALISM WARNING: The geographical distribution aims to be as realistic as possible, though some licenses have been taken in favor of gameplay.

CREDITS:

I am the author of the mod, as well as of the custom factions and units it presents, as well as the author of the custom castles added to the roster.

All of the elements used for the custom heraldry are either custom made by me, or taken from the public domain. Still, many thanks to their respective authors.

If you were to use these factions or this campaign in other mods or YouTube videos I would appreciate a mention!

Lastly, huge thanks and admiration for the developer for making such a modular game.
