1280 AD: Bishopric of Riga

This is one of the factions of my 1280 AD Livonian Campaign.

The Bishopric of Riga was established by Crusaders at the beginning of the Livonian Crusade. Bishop Albert built the first Crusader castle there, and would use Riga as a center of operations for the Baltic Crusade, which greatly contributed to the settlement’s development into a city. As the Christianization of Pagan Livonia progressed, the Bishopric of Riga was elevated to Archbishopric, and has recently begun developing interests and goals independently from the Livonian Order: now that the Pagan threat is almost gone, relationships could sour between the Christian powers in the region.
