1230 AD: Pyrenees Campaign

CONTEXT:
1229 AD. King Fernando III of Castile aims to unify the Kingdoms of Castile, León and Galicia under the Crown of Castile. However, many in León and Galicia oppose his rule, and he will have to pacify the land if he wants to secure the throne.

Rivaling the Crown of Castile, King James I of Aragon prepares to launch a devastating series of campaigns against the Almohads, which will earn him the surname “the Conqueror”.

On the other side of the Pyrenees, Humbert de Beaujeu has been chosen by the Queen regent of France to crush the opposition in the recently annexed County of Toulouse, and end the Albigensian Crusade once and for all.

But that isn’t all: King Henry III of England plots an invasion on French territory, with the intent of reclaiming the land of his ancestors. Will he succeed, or will the invasion fail?

Choose your faction, dive deep into the Iberian Peninsula, and fight for control against your neighboring kingdoms. More information about each faction in their respective Steam pages.

BALANCE WARNING: The different factions of the campaign are not balanced, and are not supposed to be. Each faction should deliver a different experience, both in territorial distribution and in difficulty. More information in the “GAMEPLAY” section.

REALISM WARNING: The geographical distribution aims to be as realistic as possible, though some licenses have been taken in favor of gameplay.

DISCLAIMER: This is only a beta version of the campaign, which will include the entire Iberian Peninsula.

EXTRA INFO:
- Big cities have several settlements, so conquering them is both more challenging and more rewarding. This also allows for several angles of approach.
- Mountain chains have few fortified crossings, while large plains are full of settlements and are easier to maneuver.
- Each settlement has a different battle map assigned that fits the location.
- In autumn and winter, wheat rolls appear in the fields and towns, representing the harvest.
- Each leader has a personality matching the historical events that followed 1230.
