Do your pawns always have the right tool for the job? Then why the hell don't they use them already?

With this mod, pawns carrying a tool relevant to their current job will equip them when starting the job. Does NOT activate when drafted or hunting.

Update:
This mod now also adds the ability to command colonists to pick up specific items to carry around in their inventory even when not part of a caravan.

Update again:
Pawns will now switch back to their previously equipped weapon when finished using a tool for a job

Ok. I tried it with only this mod, simple sidearms, and 2 tools mods, and they will not use the brooms from either of the tools mods I tried.

Also, for the Pawn Work Tools mod, when they had all the tools as sidearms, they would not use the hammer at all, and they would switch to the pickaxe to harvest trees instead of using the adze.

@VitaKaninen Shouldnt need specific support, it should just check if a workstat is higher than the currently equipped when starting an action. But with other mods loaded there can of course be conflicts.

@Mlie, I am having some trouble understanding how to get my pawns to used tools.

I am using Simple Sidearms, and it already has an option to make pawns switch to tools when the stats would help their current job, but it doesn't seem to work. I tried this mod, and it works for the cleaver for one tool mod that I tried, but it did not work for the broom or hammer, and when I tried another tool mod, it worked for the cleaver, but not the broom, but only if the simple sidearms setting was on.

Does the tool mod have to specifically be supported by this mod in order to function? I saw several tool mods on the workshop, but none of them are listed up above.

@Anker what you want is a mod called compositable loadouts. Make thge loadouts and set your tool crafting to always have at least one in your stockpile. Add all your tools to the same storage. Voila, there is your toolbox.

Ok, it seems that simply entering say an ancient stockpile and exiting will make the pawn unload their inventory, including the tools. I have been using https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3526160222&searchtext=tool for tools. I have not tested in a simplified test environment, but it seems reasonable that the new dungeon system might require adjustments to mods.

I am experiencing an issue where the pawns will drop the tools they were assigned. I am not sure what triggers it though, as it seems to be a combination of factors.

I am playing the grav ship scenario, and like right now, a bunch of pawns dropped their assigned tools after moving the ship to a new tile. But some of the pawns still have their assigned tools, which is what confuses me. The only difference, is that the pawns that dropped the tools, I had also used in an insectoid cave, where you rapel down into a hole, so maybe the issue is related to these "nested" areas? I will continue to monitor the issue.
