9A317M Buk-M3 Self-Propelled Fire Unit (TELAR)

The 9A317M is the self-propelled firing unit of the 9K317M Buk-M3 medium-range surface-to-air missile system, the latest and most capable member of the Buk family. Buk-M3 entered Russian service around 2016, bringing new digital electronics, faster engagement processing and the compact 9M317M missile with a greatly expanded engagement envelope (roughly 2.5–70 km in range and up to about 35 km in altitude, depending on target type).

Unlike earlier Buk TELARs with exposed rail-mounted missiles, the 9A317M carries six canisterized 9M317M missiles on a turntable launcher and mounts its own multifunction fire-control radar at the front of the turret. This allows it to search, track and guide missiles independently if needed, while still taking full advantage of networked control from the 9S510M command post and 9S18M3/9S36M radars.

A typical Buk-M3 battery is built around 9A317M TELARs and 9A316M TELs, with higher-level organization allowing up to 36 simultaneous target channels across the division – a major increase over previous Buk generations. The export-oriented “Viking” version is based on the same launcher architecture and may be mixed with other systems such as Antey-2500 in some configurations.

In game, the 9A317M is your primary Medium Range Surface to Air Missile for the Buk-M3 family. It is being fitted with a radar capable of up to 10 km Search and Track. It fits 6 missiles capable of lofting allowing the avoidance of high cliffs which gives it trajectory similar to Ballistic Missiles.

The vehicle is also fitted with an electro optical system capable of Tracking up to 8 km for slow moving targets and 4 km for fast moving targets.

All vehicles have implemented a system that if target is lost it will continue leading the target based on its last known coordinates
