I think Handgunners are enough and believable, repeater gunners personally I do not like but might do something in future separately ;)

also bug for game crashing for unit sizes over 200 men is fixed so you can up the numbers of these guys esepcally for the x2 and x3 mods for numbers as well.

Why do you put limits on units?

It will work with majority of mods, my units mostly use custom weapon values however I have left ranged weapons for the most part vanilla.

Any of their stats plus stats of actual unit will scale accordingly with changes a mod makes although of course it may not be fully balanced to match said mod.

I dont know if its just me, but i am only able to add 2 of these units in custom battles. Is there a way to remove the unit cap?

If I could make a suggestion would it be possible either remove the helmets for this unit in favour of hats or nothing at all? Seems that those knightly helmets would get in the way of using a gun/aiming.
