im using a combination of the waterjets vertical trim and fin rudders (normal fins increase drag and can cause boats to lift out of the water in wind). the waterjets stabilize the roll and pitch using tilt sensors, and the fin rudders force the boat down in waves

Thanks qwop after doing some research I finally managed to figure it out myself but good to have confirmed what I'd guessed. I've been rebuilding your boat myself from scratch minus some of the xml edited parts and it's been really fun.

If you have the time to explain I'd love to know how you're stabilizing the boat, I can see you are from the description and I can't quite figure it out. Perhaps it has something to do with the robotic pivots? I've seen some guides using tilt sensors but it appears the tilt sensors on this vessel aren't hooked up to anything?

Yours stays so flat in the water which is great where as mine rolls a lot and can tip at super high speed.

The front railing is made from xml edited pipes. In stormworks, vehicles are saved as xml files. If you go to %appdata% > stormworks > data > vehicles, there will be a list of xml files. Open one, and youll see how a vehicle is encoded in the xml file, block by block. What you can do is make a new vehicle with just a 1x1 block and a pipe, for example (or any other block), and save it. Then, head to your vehicles folder and open the newly created xml file. There should be something like trans_straight (xml name for a straight pipe) something something r = "values". You can change these values to change the shape of the block (dont forget to save the xml file). The hitbox will not change. I like to use https://struner11.com/stormworks/xml/ and replace the r values in the xml file with the ones from struner. Hope this helps, feel free to ask if you have any questions

Hi, I'm completely new to the game and have been building my own boat based off this design, can you explain how the front railing has been done because as far as I can tell there are custom pieces involved?
qwop  [auteur] 7 okt om 0:07
dont worry about that, those are things that dont need to be connected
TheSkreeBat 6 okt om 15:47
im new to this game so im sorry if im missing something obvious, when i load this in career mode i get a bunch of things with an error warning saying they arent connected
AVM 1 okt om 1:12
needs more power in my opinion maybe try and push 50knots
qwop  [auteur] 19 sep om 6:43
well, its a very small boat. I did what I could and in my opinion performs very well in waves it was designed for
stacilgeorge 19 sep om 6:13
it is bad in waves and when you let it float it is very wigely

average stormworks tbh
Finat0 13 sep om 9:24
I myself have not been able to recreate my own issues with this boat so i really dont know what in the world i was doing wrong that one time 😭

they provide power and make the engine more efficient even when you only connect the medium turbine's rps output
TeXeL 13 sep om 8:54
Hi qwop, I have a question about the use of jet turbines in boats, the image you linked showed 1 medium turbine and 2 small turbines, in that setup what are the small turbines for? The medium can be connected to propellers or water jets through gearboxes etc to provide RPS/Torque but I thought the small's are only for providing thrust through jet exhausts/afterburners?, could you explain what their role is here? Made a lot of jet engines for Heli's of various sizes but only ever used the Medium turbines for their RPS output, thanks.

I'm sorry, but this boat definitely has a dead man's switch. Are you sure you didnt accidentally disable it?

About the overheating: In the hottest region of the map, the engine temps top out at 109 C, 6 degrees below the overheating temperature of 115 C. I'm not sure whats going wrong on your end, but try making a new save or turning off infinite fuel.

Lovely boat, few complaints tho:
no killswitch for falling overboard, feels like a big oversight.
engine overheats while in warmer temps, making it very hard to do missions when the engine combusts every 2 seconds going 10 kts.

otherwise its a fairly decent boat
qwop  [auteur] 30 jul om 3:34
sure! 1. use lots of turbines, as many as you can. Place them in parallel (like this: https://i.imgur.com/IUxrmLP.png) . You *can* place multiple turbines behind one another, but its significantly less efficient. You only need one medium turbine, the rest can be small. 2. You dont need a compressor or air intake if you start the jet engine with an electric motor. To do this, hook up an electric motor to the medium turbine RPS output, and add a clutch. The jet engine will start when it reaches 0.5 RPS and the combustion chamber throttle input is larger than 0. With some simple logic, you should be able to make it so that the electric motor only runs and the clutch is only engaged below 0.5 jet engine RPS, or slightly higher if you want to be safe.

hey, qwop. I have made a similar boat, just that im gonna make mine run on jet engines which are gonna be inboard, got any tips?
Schliumpf 29 jul om 10:33
Okay thank you
qwop  [auteur] 29 jul om 6:04
hi, thanks! Are you going to upload it to the workshop? Then taking inspiration is fine, but please dont copy any parts from this vehicle. If youre not going to upload it and its purely for personal use, feel free to do anything you want with it
Schliumpf 29 jul om 5:09
Hi. I really Like This Creation and i wanted to ask if it would be okay for you if i were use This creation as Inspiration for one of my builds and maybe use some Parts if it. Would that be Fine with You or all the people, that have worked on This?
Hello23452345 9 jul om 5:29
You could use invis blocks to seal the wheelhouse
Pyro 9 jul om 2:43
And I like the Raw Power and turning.
Pyro 9 jul om 2:37
Why is there a Dead Man's Switch???
Memento Mori 8 jul om 12:46
No way, an SAR mod, in today's economy? We're so back
qwop  [auteur] 8 jul om 9:15
thanks! if youre talking about bilge pumps, it already has those
mega.zaver1 8 jul om 9:13
and i wan't to ask, gona here be a Water pumps feature?
mega.zaver1 8 jul om 9:09
I Love it Man! i drive it in every recuse!
qwop  [auteur] 8 jul om 8:15
the hull is water tight, making the wheelhouse water tight would mean using non-xml windows, which would completely ruin the design
jake.goodwin13 8 jul om 6:04
make it water tight
