@Not.Silent Not an isolated problem. Its something that just happens every now and then. Did you start over?
Not.Silent 2016
Hi NoahBlueRidge. I was enjoying this a lot until I found I had lost the caboose and trucks before getting to Truckee. I had done a Save and Resume. Perhaps this is the only issue, as it does cause a lot of trouble on The South Wales Coastal route. I tested it a few times, after a comment from someone. They were right. Perfect if I did NOT do a Save and Resume. (Some AI would have been nice though). Thanks for your time.

Great scenaio -- really enjoyed it

Union Pacific 3985 was preserved.
no oil:
lets use a steam engine that burns oil and pull a long train over a steep grade.
not to mention 3985 has been torn up since 2010.
the ironic part is that UP uses their steam engines in revenue service quite often.
stalls, helpers service, and heading a consist are all common with 3985 and 844
but an oil shortage would not be one.

you should change it up so maybe there is a storm in roseville and you have to bring tank-train to resupply them.

If you ever need a tester for your scenario's linuxportal I will volunteer!
Just Jon 2014
awesome linuxportal looking forward to 4 and 5 and AI. Even with out A.I. the runs are challenging and it's much more exiting than running from point A-B. The back story helps to create the scene, and sets up a good enviroment to run. I love running the big steam loco's and Donners pass is a great fit, and challenge. It would be awesome if DTG or someone else created a rotary snow plow for Donner, that would be awesome.

Also, scenarios #1 and #2 as you've seen, don't have any AI in them. I didn't know jack about AI programming when I made them, and I've learned now a freight-train load about AI in working on #3, and its moved me to, to break the monotany of playtesting, already start working on adding AI to scenarios 1 and 2.
There's going to be a Part 3 because when I first dreamed up this series, I was by no means going to limit myself to just the Sparks-Truckee-Norden side of the Pass because that's the 'easy' side of the route. Might be a little bit of a spoiler now, but since it'll still be a few days before it sees the light of day, I say it now. Parts 3 AND 4, yes FOUR, will showcase what was happening on the Roseville-Colfax-Norden side of the Pass while you were hauling coal and rescuing stranded cars with Challenger 3985. Scenarios 3 and 4 I'm also planning to be the ONLY times you're using diesel-electric motive power, as I am planning there being a part 5.
Will just have to see when I reach that point what else I want to have showcase, but the big thing about these scenarios is I want to give the player several scenarios of hauling extremely HEAVY trains over Donner's extreme grades using the biggest, baddest steam locos ever built, and pushing those locos, the Challenger and Big Boy, to their absolute limits and learning just what UP's steam behemoths could possibly really do on Donner Pass. ^^
Just Jon 2014
Roger that. I appreciate the work you have done on the first two, and glad to see there will be a part 3. Thank you again.
I will Bad Monkey, scenario #3 to 'Oil Shortage' is pretty well along now in development. Its almost to the polishing stage, but I'm now going to hold off until after TS2015 is released so I can see if a major overhaul to the Donner Pass route is carried out that fixes major longstanding issues with it. If there is, I'll then be able to check if I need to do any more tweaking to both #1 and #2 along with finishing #3 for its release.
Just Jon 2014
Thank you linuxportal, keep creating scenario's The two challenger ones are great

lol ok
Scenario #2 however is a bit more of a doozy. x3
No sir i am speaking of #1
@enginnerken26 You speaking of #2? ^^ Yeah, the description was more written the way it was I hoped to be entertaining too, and tell players 'This ain't gonna be a simple run from point A to point B'.
i didn't find that complex at all. i thought it was a nice scenario.
http://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=293763213 'Oil Shortage - Back to Steam' Scenario #2 is now available! Be warned though, there are still no AI trains in it. I have promised AI trains for the next one, so the next one will be awhile in work. I need to get Amtrak rolling stock first and learn AI train programming. But I'm confident in being able to figure it out.
@enginnerken26 Not only that, but I also don't wanna use heritage/excursion passenger car rolling stock for the AI passenger trains in these scenarios. I wanna use Amtrak rolling stock, and I unfortunately do not yet own any Amtrak locos or rolling stock. That'll have to wait until I can splurge the coin for it, which shouldn't be too long actually. I may cut my AI programming teeth using heritage passenger cars, but published scenarios in this series featuring AI will only use Amtrak rolling stock to enhance the realism of this hypothetical situation.
oh ok sorry. i know what ya mean. i made some stuff to for this game. and progamming ai can be a PITA.
@enginnerken26 This was my very first ever scenario, and so I don't yet fully understand all one needs to do to get AI trains working. It may not be until I put together scenario #3 that I add some VERY LONG diesel-hauled passenger trains as the AI trains. My excuse here for the first scenario not having AI traffic is that basically a transportation crisis is underway and a directive now is that freight trains must run under steam traction, and diesel traction is now restricted to passenger trains, with Amtrak now doing some major contracting out to the railroads to haul an exponential surge of rail passengers. Scenario #3 will feature as AI traffic some very, very long passenger trains as AI as the oil shortage has basically put the airlines outta business temporarily and passenger trains are now back as the primary means of cross country transit for the time being.
kind of a nice run. but needs some ai trains
Anyway, I've been told in private messages with a few that the main criticisms of this scenario was way to many 'go via's' in the tasklist, and that having to first disconnect the caboose before adding or removing wagons made things unnecessarily complex and was just a plain pain in the keester. I agree with both of those criticisms, and the second scenario in the series, which is now at the playtesting stage as I have time, firstly will have a major reduction in the 'go via' tasks, used only now to ensure proper pathing when shunting, and the caboose will now stay hooked up to the 'repair car' throughout, with wagons being added and removed at the back of it.
actually it was restored in the 80s and converted to use oil in the 90s.
also, the majority of all the challengers were oil fired, they even tried that on a big boy.
Well, when 3985 was first restored in the late 1970's it still burned coal, and coal firing was retained from 1981, its first excursion trip, to 1989, she developed a reputation of starting trackside fires due to too many smoldering embers being ejected from her stacks, and she was converted to oil firing to eliminate that risk. But I'm sure the Steam Crew retained the B Stoker and everything that went with it and in the game, the sounds made with stoking the fire suggest the engine has been switched back to coal firing.

Yeah, historical liberties, but 3985 was not originally oil fired until well into excursion service.
You do realize that the cHallenger was oil fired, right? Not the l;oco to use if there is an "oil shortage".
Actually, I may have an issue with this. I've now tried 4 times, once after verifying files and clearing cache, and each time at some point in the route, some of the cars disconnect. I'm not sure if this is a problem with Donner pass, the scenario or the rolling stock. I've run a lot of official scenarios and none of them have this issue though. Anyone else getting this problem?

Edit: I've found the trick is to save often. I managed to finish it by loading a save :)
Hitting a rail-switch at 70 mph...I'm gonna have to try that at some point just to see what it looks like! XDDD
I just tried this. Murphy's law happened. 1: I discovered how to run a steam train out of steam. 2: The hobo smelled so bad someone disconnected the caboose and 4 rail cars half way through the mountains. I did not discover this until arriving in Truckee. 3: I managed to accidently hit a rail switch at 70 mph while going back for the caboose. The cars made it.. the loco did not D:

Despite my miserable failures, it's a great route! I'll try again ;)
(looking forward to the next installments)
@zodwik xDD You like the early, early morning setting? The hobo was spending the night, but then one of the relief firemen wacks him over the head with a brake handle! xD
I've just started this. Looks great so far! BTW a hobo was living in the caboose! Daybed is ruined!
Re-uploaded this to correct the first screencap. It is identical to what I previously published. Now, about the two cars hooked to 3985 in the initial screenshot. The baggage car is standing in as what UP refers to as a 'repair car' and at least one is always present now in any train that contains a member of UP's Steam Fleet. This 'repair car' permits the steamer's crew to have rolling repair and machine shop available at all times for repairing any broken parts and part failures that might happen during a steam run. The caboose will be serving as the crew's rest/break and comfort car during servicing stops, and is equipped with its own electrical generator and batteries, air conditioning, food & drink refrigerator, and daybeds couches.
