One is necessary for any additional species to show at character creation.
just because the madlads of FU keep developing and stealing from other mods, doesnt mean every modmaker has to do that :P
Neki and Mechineki both have support for ear rotation as implemented in StarExtensions (by the same author as OpenStarbound), but it seems they chose to implement it differently and consequently break support in OpenStarbound.
Try asking about it on their Discord :)

So the animation for that simply doesn't exist.
I'll PR the fix straight into FU and you should see it fixed on the next FU update.
I'll do it myself as soon as I have the time.
Having said that, you should check out NFOF , it does exactly what you need :)
Didnt find any mention of it so far, looked also on Neki modpage. So it might be an issue only i experience?
Also added all the missing recipes while at it and fixed some other small things
I haven't looked at what type of sail Mechineki has and how it's implemented, but if it's based off of a very early version of Neki then I can probably fix it so that it'll use the Cutebound SAIL as long as Cutebound is installed.
