this mod is not compatible with community edition, despite my best efforts, it just crashes randomly when ending your turn
I just noticed that the download zip file is damaged no matter how many times i download it
if you dont like the way i have set up air combat, you could go into the game files and overwrite the following files with the vanila ones

this mod is not meant to be balanced, i threw balance to the curb in favor of realism
because the condor is an air superiority fighter jet going up against a lumbering alien ship that was never designed to fly in an atmosphere, the jet is faster and a lot more maneuverable (imagine sending an F18 up against a space shuttle with a few turrets on it in atmosphere)
if that condor gets hit by the corvettes weapons, it'll be torn apart in seconds
try that engagement with an alien fighter or interceptor and watch what happens (i did during testing, and even with a squadron it wasn't pretty)
i tried to be realistic with aircraft weapons, alien alloys might be strong, but they are not indestructible, being bombarded with missiles and multicannon shells will eventually get through any armor, no matter how advanced it is
The problem is that the mod does not appear in the mod menu in the game launcher. I did a fresh install for xenonauts and the mod still does not show up. In fact, I don't even think steam is downloading your mod for me.
here's a list of major changes
the mod has been expanded to include a complete rework of air combat, buildings, items.etc
you can now turn a profit by building and selling items, just like the old days of xcom
advanced planes are a LOT more expensive, and once it gets shot down, its gone forever
advanced buildings and their maintenance are significantly more expensive
aircraft weapons have been reworked so no single weapon is the best for every job
alien ships and some human aircraft have been given a bit more armor (that makes sense for the role that ship or plane is intended for)
alien battleship damage has been buffed significantly (other alien ships have also been given minor buffs)
you get more alloys and alenium from shooting down fighters, bombers.etc
smoke now does damage and can stun ground troops (both you and the aliens) different smoke has different properties
weapon reload times have been tweaked slightly
a few entries in the xenopedia have been modified to reflect changes to the item
general bug fixes (still havent pinned down the crash bug, but it should be less of a nuisance since i did find a few bugs in the code
latest update has been uploaded, i have reworked much of the code so it should be less crashy (hopefully)
i have another update planned for release that should fix some of the bugs, in addition to tweaking the balance and feel of the game, im just doing the last fit an polish under the hood before release
what other mods do you have installed, my test rig for modding is a completely vanilla install, and the mod im working on
the quick and dirty way would be to unsub and delete the files my mod changes, then check integrity and let steam redownload the vanilla files
community addition changes soldier TU values and overrides the soldier stats that my mod uses, changing your load order so my mod loads last might fix it, this mod is incompatible with any other mod that changes the files listed at the bottom of the description
apologies about the delay in replying, i have a lot going on right now
that change has already been applied to the next update (its delayed because im still trying to figure out why the game randomly crashes) the rifle reload cost is increased by 50% across all weapon types
i have been looking into other mods, but i cant find anything about the shield, i do have textures ready, so i might just get rid of the riot shield entirely and turn it into an energy shield instead, still havent decided yet
im also reworking the damage and armor numbers in order to help prevent crashes while keeping the gunplay as similar as possible, in addition, im tweaking androns to make them a little less tanky, and im adjusting minimum soldier stats to be more representative (xenonaut soldiers are supposed to be the best humanity has to offer, yet they cant hit the broad side of a barn)
and finally, im tinkering with aircraft, crash site recovery yields, and base facilities, which will be released in a future update (no promises as to when)
To add new items, I think best way would be to inspect mods that add weapons, to see what entries in what files are required. They are plenty.
i wanted to make a custom item that you get much later in the game for that, but i didnt know how to make it work (the game crashed every time i tried) and i dont know how to make the level 1 riot shield vanilla and the level 2 shield a 360 degree shield, this is a compromise i had to make if i wanted that feature, if you have any idea how to set that up (or how to add a custom shield into the game and add it to the research tree) im all ears
i did change a few smoke settings, so a few other tile types can generate smoke, other than that, smoke has been unchanged
im not a visual art designer lol, all i did was tinker under the hood
i consider that since androns are made from alien alloys, they have much stronger armor than any other alien ground unit (apart from drones) this is all based on in-game images and descriptions of them
im not sure how to add custom units and weapons into the game (i wanted to make the forcefield a custom item that could be reloaded with laser battery packs in the field, but every time i tried, the game crashed whenever i tried starting a mission, so i repurposed the riot shield into a non-reloadable forcefield and added more shield HP to compensate)
Did you change the smoke? Smoke should choke a little soldiers without respiratory apparatus, especially smoke from crash sites. I guess that the issue is that some aliens could be choked in their crashed spaceship, so this should need a little balancing.
Speaking of realism, I think that this game lacks some nice visual and audio effects: alien plasma weapons and projectiles, corpses, Androns
Beware, that your T100 idea is borderline against lore: Androns are not designed as being ultimate death machines! I'd take inspiration from the Crimson Dagger novel instead.
Also, I'd add advanced automatic fire turrets for suppression. Vanilla pulsed laser and plasma turrets are only upgrades to Viper turrets. Pulsed laser should not have such a large AoE...
