描述
WHY BOTHER MAKING THIS?
I made this mod because i didnt like how "arcadey" and overly "balanced" the vanilla game is
i wanted something more realistic and with more tactical options, but no such mods existed at the time
so i decided to make my own

WHAT WAS CHANGED?
a lot was changed, here is a non-exhaustive list of what has been tinkered with

AIRCRAFT
air combat has been completely reworked, tactics of old may not work with this mod

aircraft HP, range and speed have been tweaked, as has UFO HP and damage

the saracen has been added as a very expensive flying radar with only light combat capabilities (great for finding alien bases or chasing down UFOs)

ENVIRONMENT
gas and smoke now has a chance of stunning or even killing units

WEAPONS:
damage output, accuracy, TU cost, ammo capacity have been changed to better reflect real weapons (values for fictional weapons are estimated)
shotguns are not useless at range anymore, fire more pellets per shot, and take more TU to reload
automatic fire now only requires a little bit more TU to use than single shot, but is far less accurate making it ideal at short range, but not the best option at a distance or near friendly units

firing weapons now uses a fixed TU value rather than a percentage

> conventional weapons are relatively weak, but they are free and reasonably accurate
> lasers are pinpoint accurate, have incredible range, and have similar power to conventional weapons but have lower ammo capacity
> plasmas are very powerful, but inaccurate at long range, use these at close range for maximum damage
> mag weapons are powerful, have good ammo capacity, and are accurate at long range, great all rounders, effectively upgraded conventional weapons they deal excellent kinetic damage, but lasers are more accurate and plasmas deal more thermal damage, so no weapon type is the horse for every course

* VEHICLE WEAPONS:
the 30cal machine guns do about 50% more damage than the handheld version
the viper rockets do double the damage they used to
pulse lasers can vaporise most aliens in one shot, its extremely accurate, but you only get a limited number of shots
the plasma cannon does more damage than the pulse laser, but is less accurate
the mag cannon is by far the most powerful weapon in the game, and can one shot just about anything, including most androns and drones

*ARMOR:
armor protection values for all armors have been adjusted such that it behaves like real body armor, including degrading under fire

for example, the strongest armor in the game (predator) will resist almost any weapon in the game, effectively making you immune, but be careful it will rapidly degrade under sustained fire and you will eventually start taking damage as your troops armor becomes damaged
i feel this adds tactical depth to the battlefield as it would in real life, you could use your predator as a decoy while you send your less armored troops to a flanking position or evac a wounded soldier to your nearest medic

armor now mostly differs based on how much damage it can absorb before your troops become injured, rather than reducing the injury your soldiers sustain, and different armors give different bonuses, some give absurd levels of protection, others give 360 degree vision, some give bonus accuracy, and others even give bonus TUs, but even the weakest armor will give at least some protection

*ITEMS:
certain items have had their properties changed, riot shields for example now offer 360 degree protection (like a forcefield) to counter the disadvantage that they can only be used with handguns, and again, to offer more tactical gameplay options, such as equipping your medics with shields so they can walk into a firefight without as much risk of getting killed, shields have also been buffed significantly to counter the enhanced weapon damage output, but not so much so that its overly OP, a shielded soldier will still likely be decimated when trying to solo even a small UFO, grenades have also been modified to be more deadly
oh and explosions penetrate shields, enjoy :)

* GROUND VEHICLES:
> hunter scout car has been beefed up to the point where it is a viable battlefield combatant, it has a lot of TUs, ample armor, and devastating guns
> scimitar tank has been buffed such that it really is a tank, with frontal armor that can withstand sustained heavy plasma fire from multiple
combatants across several turns, though the rear and side armor is not quite as impressive, this combined with a pulse laser, its a deadly combination
> hyperion tank is a flying block of alien alloys with adaptive energy shielding that offers insane survivability from all directions, you might just be
able to solo a terror mission with one of these (might need to be nerfed a bit) it has a lot of TUs, is insanely accurate, and all round better than
anything else available, the hyperion is a true soldier replacement)

*ALIENS:
alien stats have also been significantly overhauled to be more deadly

> androns are tough as nails, fast, and accurate, engaging them with conventional weapons is an effort in futility (very hard but it is possible) use explosives, energy weapons, or a LOT of automatic fire if you encounter them early game, consider them to be like the model T100 terminator, they are more vulnerable to energy weapons, but can be killed with kinetics if you send enough metal downrange

> sebillians have toughened hide and bones, this makes them resistant to kinetic weapons, combat them at long range using energy weapons when possible
high damage single shot weapons are also effective, they dont have much armor, but have a lot of HP, and regenerate wounds on the battlefield, use shotguns, or snipers to combat them

> reapers are inhumanly fast, have a lot of armor, and LOT of TUs, but have low HP and are easily stunned, use stun weapons explosives or automatic fire to bring them down quickly, they will kill any soldier in one hit regardless of armor or shields

> caesans are weak, dont have a lot of HP, and their armor is easily defeated by conventional weapons, but they are smart and accurate

> harridans are agile, accurate, have enough armor to survive limited engagement with small arms, and are devastating at range

> drones are effectively a flying block of alien alloys, engaging the larger drones with conventional weapons is suicide

> wraiths have been given armor so they are not immediately decimated by reaction fire

> zombies are slow and easy to put down, even with conventional weapons, beware

> praetors are fast, have a lot of TUs, have heavy armor, are deadeye accurate, and do a lot of damage

KNOWN BUGS/GLITCHES
> explosions penetrating shields
> geoscape information showing vanilla values while battlescape showing modded values
> single shot weapons sometimes starting with more ammo than they can hold at the start of the battle
> alien AI can sometimes wig out and cause aliens to drop their weapons, engage at an ineffective range.etc
> the game can sometimes crash at the start of the alien turn (i know about this bug and dont know how to fix it)
> this mod is NOT compatible with community edition (constant crashes)

this mod changes the values in the following files, it is likely to be incompatible with any other mods that also change these files

when i load xenonauts and go to modding tools it doesnt show up

this mod is not compatible with community edition, despite my best efforts, it just crashes randomly when ending your turn

for some reason downloading (not even installing) this mod makes my game crash, the launcher wont even run and i get a blank visual c++ crash window, i ma using the X:CE version.
I just noticed that the download zip file is damaged no matter how many times i download it

The mod doesn't show up in the mod list for me. Not sure how to fix that.

if you dont like the way i have set up air combat, you could go into the game files and overwrite the following files with the vanila ones

aircraftweapons
aircrafts

this mod is not meant to be balanced, i threw balance to the curb in favor of realism

Even if that's all true (although I'm not entirely sure what a "multicannon" is. Do you perhaps mean an autocannon?), realism is not an end onto itself. If it comes at the expense of gameplay balance, it just isn't worth it.

because the condor is an air superiority fighter jet going up against a lumbering alien ship that was never designed to fly in an atmosphere, the jet is faster and a lot more maneuverable (imagine sending an F18 up against a space shuttle with a few turrets on it in atmosphere)

if that condor gets hit by the corvettes weapons, it'll be torn apart in seconds

try that engagement with an alien fighter or interceptor and watch what happens (i did during testing, and even with a squadron it wasn't pretty)

i tried to be realistic with aircraft weapons, alien alloys might be strong, but they are not indestructible, being bombarded with missiles and multicannon shells will eventually get through any armor, no matter how advanced it is

...why can I effortlessly solo a corvette with a stock Condor in this mod?
