The gate on top is designed for letting the small ships in and out, as well as assisting in obtaining Prototech blocks. The idea is that this ship is great for exploration into deep space, fighting the Factorum faction with superior firepower, while also providing a bit of room to breath and relax inside as you traverse the star system.
This ship is also very easy to work on and inside of, due to the slim open space design.
