M.S. Northern Gale

The M.S. Northern Gale is an authentic recreation of a British North Atlantic sidewinder trawler from the late 1960s and early 1970s. Designed for long-range, deep-sea fishing operations, she’s built to handle anything from the frigid Arctic waters to the dry, sun-baked seas off Aridstan (Meirer). The Northern Gale delivers an authentic and immersive fishing experience to your Stormworks world.

This creation follows a “soft realism” approach; many systems are inspired by real marine operations but remain intuitive and easy to use. For those less familiar with real-world ship systems, a video tutorial is included to guide you through the basics.

To start the main engine, follow the following steps

1. Head to the engine room
   
2. On the starboard side, close the breaker "BATTERY" on the main generator
   
3. Turn on the "GENERATOR OFF/START" key
   
4. Once the generator is started, head to the switchboard on the opposite side, and close all the breakers
   
5. Head back to the main generator, and select AIR BANK 1 OR 2, and ensure the respective tank has more than 300 PSI
   
6. Turn on the "OFF/RUN" Key on the main engine, and turn on the "AIR START" key, untill the engine turns over
   
7. Put the gear selector into forward or reverse

To trawl the net, I recommend watching the included video; unless you're already familiar with side trawling, it's not very intuitive to set the net the first time

First and foremost, while I believe this to be the first authentic/working sidewinder trawler, meaning it has a proper side net/trawl system (please correct me if I'm wrong), it would not have been possible without Mongoose. He has provided me with the proper sources and given me the initial inspiration to make this creation.


GERUINMO has also been an inspiration for my style of building and has been very kind, and has let me use his logic freely, even offering me an unreleased fish finder for this creation. The echo sounder, fish finder, and UHF radio all belong to him. Please check out his creations and give him a follow
