"Festung" is a PvE Wave Mode for the Eichenlaub Tuning Pack. Playable on any map, solo or coop, with any Axis faction vs any ai-controlled Allied faction.



HOW TO PLAY
  • PREREQUISITES
    Download the Eichenlaub Tuning Pack and all its requirements.

  • GAME SETUP
    Open a custom game lobby and follow the image guide above. Make sure to match the Win Condition to your team in the lobby, that all players pick Axis Factions, and all AI are an opposing Allied Faction. Pick between the available options to customize game length.

  • COMMANDERS
    Eichenlaub and the Festung Win Condition use the excellent Commander Preview UI by Janne252. All Commanders available to Wehrmacht and OKW are tailored to this game mode and are defensive in nature.

  • PHASE 1 - WARM UP
    During the first Phase, players are given time to choose a Commander. The Map is entirely under your control, except for a buffer zone to the enemy base. Units cannot fire or move during this phase. When a Commander is chosen, you will receieve a starting force, extra resources and the next Phase is triggered.

  • PHASE 2 - PREPARATION
    Your Intelligence Officer will now brief you on the situation. Listen to him throughout the game for information. A timer will start to count down to the first enemy attack. The AI will not leave their base. Income is limited, so prepare your defensive line with the resources at your disposal. Construction units are given access to different mines, bunkers, obstacles and emplacements.

  • PHASE 3 - COMBAT
    When the preparation timer runs out, the enemy will start their first wave attack. Repel each wave by destroying the majority of their fighting force. Use short periods of rest between the waves to recover. If the enemy captures more than half the victory points, your tickets will count down until you have re-established control.

  • HOW TO WIN
    There are two ways to win the game: Hold at least half the Victory Points until the defense timer counts to zero, or all enemy waves are defeated. The attackers lose 50 tickets for each wave repelled. The final wave will be an especially tough one to beat.

  • SUPPORT
    After each successful defense against a wave, players receive a manpower boost and a chance for air dropped weapons and supplies to your base. Reinforcements may randomly join your forces throughout the game. One-Time emergency resources will help you mount a counter-attack if all victory points are lost or the situation becomes critical.



KNOW YOUR ENEMY
  • AI DIVISIONS
    The AI will randomly pick themed archetype Divisions, such as Airborne or Armored, making every match unique. Each wave sent will consist of a unique subset of that division's troops.

  • REAR GUARD
    When the majority of a wave's fighting force is destroyed, the rest will retreat and prepare for the next assault. Only support weapons remain on the field as a rear guard. Consider this when trying to take back territory.

  • DIFFICULTY
    Difficulty levels drastically alter the playing field. While Easy AI will send infantry and armor mindlessly into your lines, Normal AI will support them with team weapons, and Hard AI or Expert AI will probe your weak points, use off-map support and may field super-heavy tanks.

  • FINAL ASSAULT
    When you defeat all but one enemy wave before the Defense Timer runs out, the enemy launches an all-out final assault. Take cover.

  • TANK TRAPS & MINES
    Tank traps and mines may seem a cost-efficient way to block off parts of the map, but be aware of enemy engineers. They will attempt to spot and destroy mines or blow up tank traps with explosive charges.




REQUIREMENTS
  • This Win Condition pack is part of the Eichenlaub Mod and requires all its dependencies to work. Due to code interdependence, none of the parts will function on their own.

  • Please make sure that you have subscribed to all required items. You may visit the Eichenlaub Steam Collection for easy subscription.

@Dar_No2 you wanna take a look at the alarmtruppen's, the officer is not preventing them from retreating as it should, instead alarmtruppen is just caught in the loop of not retreating and retreating.

@Atlantis: You are quite right on that! Word of advice: more than AI difficulty, choice of map matters. Start small, and go for maps with corridors and open fields. Only attempt 3v3 or 4v4 maps with 2 human players or more.

also one more thing, don't think you are built different after hearing what i said, you the player, are not exempt from this nugget of wisdom, trust me, this gamemode will shock and suprise you otherwise

@Dar_No2 okay thank you for the input :) btw if you guys are new to Festung, highly recommend to play on easy and work you way up as you get better with your defensive strategies. seriously guys this is entirely different beast to tame, your typical way of playing the game, modded or not, will go out the window and you had to approach this from scratch so as to stay revalent, try to play with random and it does not end well. besides that this "gamemode" for the mod is seriously adding more replayability and i recommend you giving it a shot, just make sure you know what you getting yourself into.

Hi @Atlantis, always go 1:1. Two players, two AI, if it’s just you, then get a single AI to oppose you. The amount and quality of stuff they throw at you goes up with difficulty.

I can tell I'm going to enjoy this mod a-lot, but I have a question (or rather advice), when I wanted to play it co-op, what is the ideal number of a.i. in festung? is it the same number of players or is it going to be half the players playing?

Hi @Bobsemplethetank, unfortunately I can't reproduce the issue. All icons are showing on my end. Sometimes Steam Workshop messes up a download. I have uploaded a hotfix which should trigger a re-download of the tuning pack. If that doesn't solve the issue, please try to unsub-delete-resub both the tuning pack and the win conditions.

Oh btw maybe this is early but the icons for the new commanders are broken/missing. Unit models themselves are okay but the icons are missing.
