------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A late-war experiment ahead of its time: Like most of the world's countries at this point, the UER was drained from fighting, but no end was in sight. The urgent need for a breakthrough, especially in the East Asian front, weighed heavily and would determine victory. This breakthrough would happen on the ground, a new tank was needed. Tons of research was poured into the new project, most of which had their foundations already laid out by earlier thoughts of breaking through the Tochi lines. The first working prototype, fueled by a massive fuel tank, a large portion of the defense budget, and the work of the Eastern world's finest mathematicians and physicists left the assembly line in 1946. They called it the Objekt 88, a medium tank that carried with it a state-of-the art auto-loading 80mm gun, range-finding equipment, and projected gunsights. While it performed well in tests, it was too expensive to make in large numbers. A little over a dozen were made, with one or two scattered across each of the East Asian-bound tank divisions. Whispers of a new tank with "the fire-rate of a bolt-action rifle" and the "accuracy of a great hunter" quickly spread throughout Tochi tankers and infantry. It was frequently misidentified and few were actually seen in person, as most tanks were camped out in sniper positions and the outskirts where they were much more safe and could use their superior targeting equipment. Although it did little to change the course of the war, its pioneering attributes went on to lead the UER into the modern era as one of the most capable ground armies
