Who's Who? (Driver Names Identifier)

描述
This mod is a tool to help advanced modders tweak their driver's names and/or appearance.

This mod changes all driver's names to their ID value allowing you to identify their name and/or appearance in the game files. This mod is compatible with all other mods that change driver's names and appearances as long as it is above them in the mod load order.

This mod has been tested with

How to change driver's names using this mod:
  1. Launch ATS with this mod active.
  2. Open your Driver Manager or Recruitment Agency to see the ID for the drivers you have access to.
  3. Close ATS.
  4. Open File Explorer on your PC.
  5. Locate and open the file by pasting
    C:\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\270880\2951966924\universal\locale\en_us\driver_names.sii
    into the explorer bar.
  6. Find the line with the ID for the driver you wish to edit.
  7. Replace the numbers in quotation marks with the name you wish that driver to have.
    Example:
    name[04]: "04"
    Replace with:
    name[04]: "New Name"
  8. Save the file and relaunch ATS.
Unsubscribing and resubscribing to this mod will overwrite any changes you make to the driver names file. Updates to this mod could also overwrite changes. I recommend copying this mod folder into
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\American Truck Simulator\mod
The new location for the file you need to edit will be
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\American Truck Simulator\mod\2951966924\universal\locale\en_us\driver_names.sii
When you launch ATS a new mod will show up in the Mod Manager called "2951966924." You can deactivate "Who's Who?" and activate "2951966924" to use your edited names.

You can rename the 2951966924 folder if you wish for the mod to show up with a name like "My Driver Names" in the Mod Manager.

How to change driver's appearances with the help of other mods:
Is there a mod that changes driver's appearances and names that you want to use, but you want control over which appearances correspond to which drivers or you want the ability to restore some of the default driver images? These mods use .dds files that can be deleted or renamed. Use "Who's Who?" to help you figure out which image files correspond to your drivers.

Let's say you don't like the appearance of Driver 36. You can delete 36.dds to restore the vanilla appearance or replace it with your own image.

If you like the appearance of 562.dds and wish the assign it to Driver 36, then you can rename it 36.dds.

Do NOT delete or edit the .mat or .tobj files!!!

C:\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\270880\2798782894\universal\material\ui\driver
Female drivers" by beatbird. can be accessed at
C:\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\270880\1482497688\universal\material\ui\driver

I would also recommend copying these mod folders into
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\American Truck Simulator\mod
in case they are updated so that the Steam Workshop won't automatically update them and erase your edits.

Just found this mod and I am on a newer Mac laptop. Is it still "unusable" on Macs?

This mod adds support for up to 1700 drivers, but the original game only has somewhere around 300-400 (I forget). If you go to a recruitment agency with this mod turned on it will randomly select drivers from the list so that is why you are seeing IDs going up to the thousands.

If you only want to hire driver IDs that are in the game, make sure you go to the recruitment agency with this mod turned off and then turn it back on later to see their IDs. When you revisit the agency with this mod turned off it will reload the available drivers.

Love the mod! I did notice something odd (likely unique to game, not this mod). Has anyone noticed that the number of drivers available don't necessarily match their "ID" - For example, I might have 354 drivers, but a few have an ID in the thousands. The game also doesn't assign an image to those drivers and I haven't had any luck customizing images using this or any other mods.

@12Monkeys - Probably setting the regional setting to “en_us” is what got it to work because there are other folders for localization. This is probably something that I can fix in the future. Thanks for bringing this up!

For those who who can't get this mod to run:
I had the problem that all mods modifying driver_names.sii didn't work. Then accidentially I get it to work with the following two actions:

1. Try to set everything ingame to US settings (lbs, mph, 12h time, etc), so that ingame regional settings are are "en_us". You can check that in the game log file (C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\American Truck Simulator\game.log.txt). Scan the file for "/locale/en_us/". If you found this somewhere, everthing is fine.

2. if number one doesn't work, then try to launch ATS with "-force_mods" parameter from Steam. (Google for "ats force_mods" on how to do this). You don't even need to load your save, just start ATS with "-force_mods" once, quit ATS again, remove "-force_mods" and start ATS normally.

Sounds weird, but after that everything worked for me. Don't know if you need to do both or just one of the actions.

I'm glad that you let me know. I might need to add in the description somewhere that this doesn't work for Mac users.

One of the joys of PC gaming...hardware and software comes into play and causes all sorts of problems that are difficult to diagnose and fix for all users.

No worries. My apologies if that came across as a complaint; more of an observation. The path to the .sii files is similar on Macs but I couldn't get the names or the photos to change. Unfortunately, that's the tradeoff with using a Mac: a lot of things that work on a PC do not transition to Mac OS very well. I'm just happy I can play the game on my Mac. :)

Doesn't work on a Mac. I found the correct driver_names.sii file and made the appropriate changes but the names would never update in the game.
