Meet the FV Paulo:

The FV Paulo is a family-owned and -built fishing troller (not a trawler) from the 1940’s built with comfort and work ease in mind. While not by any means a professional boat and riddled with quirks (self-righting, by the way), it stands out among the commercial and more modern vessels in and around the Sawyer Islands.

This vessel has eight winches for trolling, and, when paired with longlining hook chains, can bring up a lot of fish, though not as much as a trawler. The ship is relatively more expensive than most smaller trollers, but it has a full instrument suite and lots of equipment.

Startup:

Enter the below-deck portion of the ship through the hatch in the wheelhouse.
At the very end of that portion of the ship is the electrical room. In the back of the room, you’ll find the main and aux. Breaker. Turn on the “Main Battery Bank”.
Now for the engine: enter the engine room (the room with the engines) and find each engine key. Turn those on and head back to the wheelhouse.
Now you can sail!

Trolling Arm Operation

Assuming you’ve already bought and prepared your hooks, deploy the trolling arm using the “Trolling Arm Out” switch.
When it’s fully extended, attach your hooks using ropes.
To lower/raise your trolling hooks, just use the “Trolling Line In” and “Trolling Line Out” switches.
Important Note: when using longlining chains, you also have to pull the trolling arm itself back into the mast to unload the hooks.
