Lunar Survivalist

Lunar Survivalist is a broad rebalance mod for Invisible Strain. It is an alternate version of Sandbox mode with new and modified items. This should be a good option for new players who find the game too hard. However it is balanced and not cheaty in my opinion. Most of the changes are features I feel could justifiably be added to the game itself, so this is sort of a proof of concept. If it is too easy for you, I recommend increasing the zombie and raider counts.

Weapons:
-AR1 renamed "AK Assault Rifle" and is less common in military loot lists.
-AR2 renamed "M1 Assault Rifle" and is less common in gunstore loot lists. Smaller clip(20), better range and slower rate of fire.
-Pistol damage increases slightly more per skill level and has a 9 round clip.
-Hunting Rifle and Sniper Rifle have longer ranges and should focus on targets faster at high skill levels.
-The new Hunting rifle (new item) is a bolt action (1 round clip) version of the sniper rifle that uses assault rifle ammo. It does slightly more damage than the assault rifles and has slightly less range/slower aiming than the sniper rifle.
-Some other minor tweaks to improve function.
-Melee weapons rebalanced by weight, value damage and damage per level. Blunt weapons tend to have a higher base damage but benefit less from user skill. Bladed weapons generally are more effective in the hands of skilled users and lighter. Rarity of some weapons tweaked slightly.

Food:
-Added pemmican and cornbread recipes to the game which can be cooked in a Kiln.
-You can now cook human meat over a campfire and eat it plain.
-Sunflower oil requires more seeds to craft.

Crops:
-Hemp plant(new item): Uses corn crop model. Produces hemp and seeds. This is legendary rarity and only spawns in camps.
-All vanilla crops now give seeds on harvest.

Clothing:
-More color options for a few clothing objects.
-Helmets and Bulletproof vests are slightly less common.

Buildings:
-Renamed "Barn" to "Large Wood Cabin"
-Diners are sturdier than other buildings (metal) and harder to burn. They make good starting locations to claim and store valuables.

Crafting:
-Arrow crafting now requires 1 wood and 3 flint, but makes 20 arrows.
-Most crafting resources have their weight reduced (wood, steel, charcoal, etc.). Lead weight increased.
-You can craft a "Large Steel Container" at a forge. It functions like the catering bucket (and can also be used to make rabbit traps.
-Hemp can be used to craft string, rags and "Smokes".
-Ammo crafting yields double the ammo per recipe for the same cost (except sniper rifle ammo which is closer to 1.5x).

Miscellaneous:
-Added a "New Player" difficulty setting for a casual experience to help people get comfortable.
-Added two higher difficulty settings.
-I added a new character Loadout template "Scavenger".
-No changes to clothing/equipment/skill budget at start.
-Zombies: have a very low chance to spawn with canned food.
-Added gift items: Smokes and Teamwork Magazine.

Huh, I didn't know about the roaming squads thing. I need to go back and release an updated version of this. Unfortunately story mods also lack new content, so playing this is pretty much playing an older version of the game. I don't know if it's possible to edit vanilla content without doing it this way. I might try making a version that is just the new content so it is more adaptable to updates.

so far only thing I haven't liked is that "ANY STORY MOD" breaks roaming squads :( but the mod is great enjoyed the changes! :) wish I could add it without having to use it as a story to fix that issue with the spawns

FYI, I don't plan to change this at all, and will probably just rebuild it at a later date. If anyone wants to use any of the changes I made in their own mod, feel free (including the new images).

I'll take a look at pumpkins and fix that. I noticed I wasn't getting a high yield of seeds either. I'll have to figure out a solution to hemp. Maybe not have it as a settlement loot option so NPCs don't farm it instead of food. Thanks for the feedback.

Npcs appear to be seriously overproducing hemp. I bought literally a thousand hemp and could have bought hundreds of seed in my go-to trade town, in one visit. Good for turning into string and selling back to them, but they seem to have no idea what to do with the stuff. Five farmers had around 150-250 each every time I visited, until I bought the stuff. Now watching to see how long until they get clogged up again. It took a season the first time.

Couldn't get a pumpkin seed until farming skill five, then one seed per plot so far. Seems a bit harsh. If hemp were that harsh, it might stop town farmers from going nuts with it though. Hemp is currently the easiest seed to acquire, corn now the hardest, but in year two I expect that to be pumpkin.

Love the idea, but currently not digging the zero chance of seeds on pumpkins and likely other crops at farming skill two. Perhaps more seeds less useable crops at low skill?

I decided to make seeds for all crops as it really helps reduce micromanaging farming and cooking. You might need to spawn in some seeds if you are updating during an existing playthrough but otherwise should be solid. I don't have anything else to add so future updates will likely just be for fixes and keeping things working as the game develops.

Ok, attempted a full process test. I was able to place the Barn blueprint, but when attempting to add lumber, it says "we are out of that resource", in spite of a bag full of lumber. All other structures I've attempted to build so far have had no similar problem, so it's probably not the modified lumber.
