I just tested out the X44 and didn't have any issues with the front landing gear, even during my not-so-soft landing. However, I noticed that the front landing gear has issues deploying while flying at high speeds, which can prevent it from locking securely. (I tested this in on high physics setting and in a new world.) I recommend trying the plane again in a new world.
The transfer sequence works the same way in both directions. The feature is called transfer and it is mapped to the 3 key in the seats if they are in one of the flight control page if I remember correctly.
Note that the transfer sequence may not immediately be apparent to the pilot as it is a fully automated sequence. Just hit the key and continue flying as normal while the plane transfers over the course of 20-30 seconds. Also ensure you press the transfer early enough as the plane will require to fly for a bit under 2km still to complete the transfer safely. You can find the transfer radius in the map app at all times.
To say this in the most simple way possible: No
It takes a lot of work to build these and anything smaller would be a significant downgrade to this pro version and therefore not really provide any aims for our design team here at IDT. Also there are plenty of more compact and more efficient VTOLs out in the workshop already so there should be plenty alternatives.
Thats what we were aiming for ;) Thank you!
