An example chassis for you to build your own sailing ship.

A few days ago I was challenged by Den Shamanoff to build a control system for a sailing ship, that everyone can use as a base to build your own sail boats.

This is a pure wind powered example ship. It assumes a conventional sailing ship layout with at least three masts. Masts orientation is controlled automatically based on ship's steering input, and sails are furled automatically to prevent strong side winds from blowing the ship over.

It can sail about 45 degrees into the wind, although best performance is achieved when sailing with the wind. Requires 40% wind to get moving at a reasonable speed, and becomes unstable above 65% wind.

I don't know how to implement jibs and spankers so those are not included.

**Note when ship becomes unstable in strong winds, reduce throttle to reduce sail surface area**

maybe the vertical pivot is four times, i forgot a bit.

The horizontal pivots angle the control surfaces so the perpendicular line is always half way between the direction of the incoming wind and the direct rear of the boat.

And vertical pivots to angle the control surfaces so they are tilted at an angle double that of the tilt of the mast, to generate a bit of lift and reduce the tendency for the ship to roll over in crosswind.

I can't believe this actually works! Congratulations on a great job! It's sad that so many people have cried about the sails, but the reality is that no one really needs them.
