Ashes of Europe

描述
Version 0.8 "Out Of The Powder Keg And Into The Fire"

Out Of The Powder Keg And Into The Fire displays a world in which the Serbian Black Hand ran the nation into the ground during the Great War, the Czechoslovak project ground to a halt, the Hungarian Soviet Republic actually worked, the Romanian nation grew ever more authoritarian, and Kaiser Karl managed to hold onto the Austrian throne- and his life. Each of these nations seeks to form their union of choice within the Balkans and along the plains of Pannonia, and they are all willing to kill to get it. Who among them will brave death and dishonor to seize their place in history?

Ashes of Europe requires the Man the Guns to function properly. No other dlc are required (I think), but they are recommended, as you may experience missing portraits and a few useless focuses. At some point I will probably make it compatible for those with no dlc but right now it isn't. I do not have Gottdamerung or whatever so IDK if it works, lmk if there are any errors, I guess.

Welcome to Ashes of Europe! Have you ever wondered what would have happened if the Napoleonic wars stalemated? The Confederacy won? The Soviet Union struggled to assert itself? The KMT never split? Well, wonder no more, because Ashes of Europe satisfies all these questions. Well, maybe not the confederacy one, to be honest. They died in WW1.

Ashes of Europe is a mod in which World War One took place between the Entente and the Central Powers, containing following countries (list subject to change):
Entente: France, Netherlands, Rhineland, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Denmark, Japan, USA, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Mexico
Central Powers: Britain, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, CSA

This war resulted in a victory for the Entente, though the damage to Russia was severe, leading them to break out in civil war and almost derailing the Entente's war effort. Still, the Entente prevailed, and ended up enforcing the Treaty of Versailles.
The Treaty of Versailles led to the following changes (may be incomplete/not yet represented in game):
Britain lost most of Africa, including granting South Africa independence, as well as Singapore and Malaysia
Spain was granted French Morocco
Portugal lost Portuguese Guinea
CSA was annexed and its Caribbean territory split between USA and France
Germany lost the Rhineland
Austria lost Bohemia and parts of Bosnia and Croatia
Hungary was to lose Slovakia and Transylvania, but the Hungarian Communists managed to prevent this
Hungary lost Croatia
Canada lost Quebec
Japan received Papua New Guinea

The Great War caused much strife around the world, but not all of the territory changes were represented in the Treaty of Versailles, especially regarding the Russian Civil War.

Current Update Road Map
0.9 - "The Commonwealth and the Deluge" (Sweden, Poland, Finland?, Ukraine?, Belarus?)
Poland's lack of political variety makes it have little replayability and most of Eastern Europe is similarly boring. Sweden needs at least some content, and the whole region should be more dynamic.
0.10 - "China is updated again" (Chinese tags, Tibet?)
China is pretty terrible, my attempted rework was not good, and honestly didn't even really finish. The war in the East is unbalanced and boring, which is even worse.
0.11 - "A government run like hell?" (Japan, Philippines)
A Philippines that was never under US occupation and probably able to get independence from the Spanish but tragically lacks content combined with a Japanese tree that shows promise but is hamstrung by how stale the eastern war is makes this region vital for content, but China must come first to get the bones in place.
0.12 - "Francois Overseas" (French East Asia, French Africa, Mexico)
The French Overseas Empire is hugely interesting concept that never came to fruition in real life. Should Mexico even be a part of it in this timeline? I have no clue and this needs a lot of research to get right. Also none of it even has content right now.
0.13 - "Empire of Siam" (Siam & Burma)
Siam is the oldest content in the mod and despite being a middle power is a Japanese lackey in all but name. Burma got new lore in the Indian update but needs actual content now
0.14??? - "America the completely screwed"
The USA needs serious help but I don't know what to do with it without ruining the game balance irrevocably. So yeah, it needs something at some point, but who knows when that will be...

Mini-Plans (to be done packaged with one of the above updates)
- Break up Somalia into multiple tribes and add content for them
- Revamp the Spanish Civil War mechanics so it's more of a slog and less of a stomp, but not as trash as Paradox's version, plus add the missing economic decisions
-change some colonial borders in Central Africa
-Bulgarian decisions to intervene against Romania and/or Serbia while they're fighting Hungary
-tweaks to the Balkan League and their conflicts with one another

Known Bugs:
-Portuguese revolt decisions not disappearing
-Mid-civil war economic decisions for Spain never showing up (it's because I forgot to add them)
-If Japan loses to China, they will rejoin the war due to Siam, then peace out, then rejoin, etc

IF IT'S NOT ABOVE, I DON'T KNOW IT EXISTS! PLEASE TELL ME!

Closing:
Huge thanks to both Kaiserreich and Road to 56, I have used both of those mods extensively to cross-check generals, focuses, and country leaders. They have given inspiration for a huge number of paths and I've used a plethora of Kaiserreich portraits for leaders. Thanks also to Fuhrerreich, I have used some of their portraits as well. And to everyone else who helped with this project (you know who you are), I appreciate your efforts.

I'm always looking for volunteers to help with this project. In particular I would love loading screen/gfx people but pretty much any help is appreciated. I'd love to have someone who wants to help rework China, because my past efforts show I suck at Chinese reworks. If you'd like to help out, leave a comment below and I will bring you on board.

Thanks for reading, and good luck!

3. Ottomans are being changed to specifically either fight ONLY the desert people before ww2 or nobody, this conflict will be merged with ww2 based on the changes to Egypt I wasn't able to get in for the last update, so don't worry about that I am aware of the issue. Divisions should be balanced for that soon.
- that said, I was able to defeat all of them at once, it's fairly difficult but doable
4. I will look into adding a bit more supply depots as well as shortening focuses. Were there any in particular you felt were too long for their benefits? (besides navy and air stuff because everyone knows those are never worth it for any tag really)

@GGDENOOW
In case you are still looking to play the Ottomans in the future I'd like to respond to your critiques (apologies for taking so long to respond here, I haven't been checking the workshop much)
1. the Ottomans are supposed to be poor, they are not supposed to have much industry at the start. The people they fight are even worse off. This should get fixed by re-balancing though, see 3 below.
2. If you have any sources for steel or aluminum inside Ottoman lands that are missing in game, please let me know. I don't want to add completely implausible resources; their steel production can already get higher than it really should via their industrial focuses

Hey guys I just tried the Ottomans and wanted to add my take on it. For one I think that the ottomans should a start with a few more civs/ mills and docks. Also A bit more resources like steel and aluminium. Als a few more division. Or else I don't see how your suppose to hold Iran+ Egypt+ Saudi + Balkan nations. Also there should be some more supply depots. Bulgaria front I struggled with supply. Also I would recommend changing most of the 42 days focus to 35.

@jimeg Okay Well Of Course it ends up being their fault per the usual lol...I might try a clean install but thank you for trying to fix it!

@Particle3223
This seems to be an isolated incident. After some looking around, I have seen others noting this same problem several times over the past week in Kaiserreich. Kaiserdevs apparently said to try a clean reinstall of hoi4, which should fix it. From what I have seen this isn't guaranteed to work, but it is something to try.
My best guess is that paradox probably screwed something up with the launcher again.

No, I have no idea why this happens. I just tested it myself and it does not crash for me. It's possible that the mod got corrupted while uploading to steam though. I will have someone else who isn't the owner test this out and see if the crash happens for the. I'll get back to you on this.

I have tried booting up with this Mod and Player Led Peace Conferences, Literally Zero other Mods besides those two. It will proceed to go into loading screen and then crash with an error of problems with the Map gfx. I then proceeded to try using only this mod and it still happens. Any Idea why? By the Way I have all DLC activated.

@JacobMEISTER
It certainly makes sense. I think I will rectify the navy issue by giving Denmark more destroyers and subs. They already start with a large amount of heavy cruisers, and probably don't have the motivation to build carriers or battleships. Might give them a couple of outdated German dreadnoughts as war reparations though, we'll see.
Look for that in the next update.

@jimeg Well, the exact effect that keeping Norway would have on Slesvig-Holsten nationalism is debatable. At the very least, southern Holstein would always feel like germans under danish rule, rather than danes who speak german. No complaints on that front.

Rather it is military might that should be expanded upon. Denmark, prior to 1864 (which obviously didn't happen here) was very militaristic. The navy in particular needs work.
It has always been the pride of Denmark-Norway, and was a critical part of the defence. It both defended local waters and blockading enemy ports.
So a united Denmark-Norwat that hasn't lost its will to fight should at least match the german navy.
