A generally charming and fun linear story-driven platformer, though its title character talks far too much and level design could have been a bit tighter, with some periodically unclear objectives and a particularly dodgy late-game stealth sequence.

I've never played League of Legends and likely never will, but all the LoL lore that's actually relevant to this game's plot is explained reasonably well here.

Swashbuckling 3D action game set in a cartoonishly heightened version of 18th (I think?)-century Spain, in which you play as a lesbian swordswoman who dispatches enemies with a vaguely Arkham-esque parry/counter system and fun physics-based environmental interactions. Suffers from the limitations of its indie budget: it's a fairly short game that nonetheless runs a tad too long given the limited mechanical and environmental variety; there's some questionable checkpointing; and some of the battles and enemy types limit the ways you can use the environment to your advantage, neutering the game's strongest feature. But when its mechanics come together, like when you parry an attack and are then able to kick an enemy into a weapons rack, or drop a chandelier on a group of enemies, it's a lot of fun.

Qualified recommendation. Replayed this before I belatedly get around to its sequel. Production values and Juergens’ performance are still outstanding in 2025, but the combat gets awfully repetitive and overly drawn out, and I found myself wishing for more than one puzzle mechanic; I’ve heard that the sequel is even more of a walking simulator, and maybe that was the right move.

Also, even on an RTX 4070 with DLSS enabled, the high RT setting completely tanks performance in certain areas, particularly the final fight.

Janky and generic first-person horror, with clunky controls and unclear level design and objectives. The devs’ follow-up, Maid of Sker, isn’t great but is a masterpiece in comparison to this one

On a mechanical level, *Thank Goodness You're Here!* doesn't consist of much more than wandering around pressing one button to slap and another button to jump; what it excels at is using a simple video game as a delivery system for a couple hours of charmingly disturbing 2D art and absurdist British comedy, with great voice acting including none other than Matt Berry in the cast. Every time I thought I would just be tediously backtracking trying to figure out what to do, I ended up encountering new gags (some of which are running gags that play out over the course of multiple visits to the same area) and completing new objectives. I wouldn't want it to be much longer than it is (roughly 2.5-3 hours), but it's a great short play for anyone into this style of comedy; also gets props for featuring an (interactive!) climactic musical number

Outstanding production values and gorgeous visuals (even though it's a PS4 port, it still looks great at 4K/60fps on PC), with satisfyingly visceral combat, enjoyable exploration, and strong development of the relationship between Kratos and Atreus.

On the downside: it's too long and eventually gets much too easy on the default difficulty (at least if you invest a reasonable, non-completionist amount of time on exploration and side quests to get collectibles for upgrades), to the point where I ended the game with a huge surplus of cash and XP that I had no incentive to use; furthermore, the way the Aesir are and aren't used by the writers results in a narrative that ends up feeling more like a 40-hour prologue to its 2022 sequel than it does any kind of self-contained story. Still, I enjoyed the large majority of my time with it and look forward to playing Ragnarok down the road.

Mechanically and in terms of the style of level design, this feels very much like what I remember Half-Life 2 feeling like when I played it 20 years ago, albeit with 2021 RTX-enhanced Unreal Engine 4 graphics. Very short but lacking in environmental or gameplay variety, even with a campaign that's only 3 hours or so long; also, both manual and automatic saves are far too infrequent for the quantity of enemies many areas throw at you. Still, worth a try on sale, as long as you go into it expecting an FPS that feels more like a proof of concept for its upcoming sequel than anything else; hopefully, Industria 2 has more variety, a better save system, and a proper ending.

Also, despite the existence of console ports, gamepad support is completely halfassed on PC, with very awkward default button mappings and (as far as I can tell) no gamepad support at all in menus. Another thing to fix for the sequel.

Backfirewall_ is a comedic first-person puzzle/adventure game with a clever premise (you're inside a smartphone and trying to help the current version of the OS prevent himself from being overwritten by an OS update) and amusing writing and voice acting. Unfortunately, there isn't much else I can recommend about it, as the puzzle mechanics are generally unintuitive, and puzzles aren't particularly fun or satisfying to solve even when you do grasp what you're supposed to be doing, suffering from clunky controls and a general lack of audiovisual feedback on top of uninteresting puzzle design. Wish this had just been a straight walking simulator, frankly.

side note: I'm in no danger of running out of space on my SSD, but I'd love to know how or why a game with such simple visuals and minimal texturing requires 35 GB of storage space; unless the visuals take a really drastic turn into realism or it becomes an FMV game later on, the file size must be horribly optimized here. (Even on my RTX 4070, the framerate tanked when I looked at specific photos in the art gallery area, so I suspect texture compression or lack thereof is at least part of the issue here).

Gamepad support is currently broken unless you cap the framerate at 30fps, which at least on my PC resulted in an even lower framerate. Don't bother, even on deep discount.

Not perfect by any means (some of the more topical immigration themes fall a bit flat in execution), but I enjoyed the story a lot and found the sibling relationship between Sean and Daniel compelling throughout. I do wish one of the two romance options in Chapter 3 didn't require a choice that made it significantly harder to get a good ending, though.
