fantastic game very well deserving of GOTY.

let me sing of song praises for just about everything in the game here

okay now minor complaint, while the characters and side quests have great stories and themes, I feel like the overall plot lacks that same hutzpah. it has lots of twists and turns, but I don’t feel like it means anything, or really has anything to say. that’s okay, being a vessel for the characters, but i just found beating the game somewhat narratively unsatisfying

i think this game is criminally underrated

it has the most thought out and amazing balancing and system ive ever seen

the themes are so beautiful and greatly delivers on the “making the most of a bad situation”

everything screams inspired from enemies to characters to music to literally everything, I’ll run out of characters if I list it all

top that all off with an entirely free post game alternate game mode which, in my opinion, delivers on some of the themes from the first game even better than the first

i don’t know how they’ll continue without Wayne Jude, RIP. i trust that they’ll do their best to honor his memory and carry on respectfully.

in a way I’m happy Wayne Jude got
to play the role of the Academic instead of the antagonistic Ancestor before his passing, but this might actually be me coping with the loss of a beloved VA.

super fun. music and voice acting are surprising major highlights. progression is satisfying, I love the puzzle grid for upgrades.

i feel like individual characters have more complexity and build ceilings than entire triple A MMOs, it’s so sick to get some crazy chain of upgrades letting you do some wild ♥♥♥♥; and the difficulty keeps pace somehow

devs also have a great sense of humor and community

this game has sauce. fun, fast paced, varied builds, awesome weapons, and impressively and stabley coop despite the chaotic mix of dots and status effects and complicated synergies.

there's also just so many signs the developers have played other games and gotten annoyed by things, and implemented QOL, 2 major examples:
1. If a teammate goes through a door to a combat, it closes behind them. INSTANTLY there is a portal so you don't have to wait 5+ seconds to "joining allies" like in say Destiny 2.
2. Crashing, disconnecting, etc; saves your progress on the host of the game, and the other players get a warning on how far they can progress and still have their lost member rejoin with all their stuff. My network crapped out and I rejoined with all my aspects, stats, build, everything.

my only complaint is that since its so beautiful, i feel bad speeding past some of these environments

Super charming and genuinely really fun! The game nails the feeling of a journey and a lot of this is just so absolutely funny with friends! I could see myself even playing this solo though, its just a fun climbing game on top of that!

Combined with the "daily island" system, this game could stay fresh for quite a while!

So far really fun. It's just great to have these fights balanced around 3 people and to have that chaotic teamwork. Also looks like there's actually a lot of lore considered along with some new enemies alongside the new bosses. I like having a dedicated guides and information area. The memories system is similar to Ravenswatch which I think is great for expanding on the characters and giving more content for dedicated players. Very pleasantly surprised to see a character-based quest system, especially since each character seems to interesting in themselves. I'm seeing myself spending a really long time with this game.

Only minor complaints really, I don't like how different the default controls are from Elden Ring, and I wish there were more options for changing controls. I would've liked if the UI, particularly the healthbars and player resource bars, were closer to Elden Ring's. Sometimes slow matchmaking for certain bosses but its literally the first day. Would've been nice if there were new weapons to Nightreign, not just Elden Ring weapons, though its possible I haven't found them. I also want more communication options, like text chat, communication's wheel, ping system, etc. Also overall, the gameplay loop is extremely fast paced, almost too much so. I would prefer if things slowed down a little and let me read what buffs I have, give me a moment to share things with teammates, etc.

Imo the conflations of this as an extraction or battle royale are totally unfounded and unfair. It's a roguelike with some light meta progression. The existence of selectable player characters is really fair given how much each character strays from the Elden Ring control and play scheme. Also, while I said I want more communication options, you don't NEED voice chat to succeed by any means, most of the people I've randomly matched with are plenty competent and coordinated.
