The dungeon is the enemy. It is full of hidden treasures, dangers, tricks, and traps. Boils down the dungeon crawl to it's basic elements, and only gives enough information to make meaningful choices. I am very much enjoying my expedition.

edit: 14 hours in and the game is still fun. I'm around floor 30-something and I'm having to make sure at least one or two of my characters has low health which gives a high bonus to damage. Paths are all straight, so no jumping around too drastically. Equipment comes in waves. Sometimes you just don't have the gear to deal with what you are facing, so you go a bit deeper than you should to try and unlock items from the shop by fighting monsters you haven't met before. Game moves fast. Mistakes are still made.

I do not like RTS's. I believe this game is somewhat miscategorized even though it is technically an RTS. What this game really is, is a Bridge Command Simulator. You stand on the bridge of your flagship, and manipulate the map for information and detailed control of your ship while yelling out orders for both on-ship functions and fleet orders. The fact that you can give orders and control your ships at the speed of thought without having to fumble through menus or juggle control of a bunch of units, changes the very nature of what it means to be an RTS.

Add to that the fact you can take direct control of a ship's through a steering wheel and all ship functions, and it's icing on the cake for immersion.

Oh, and there is an online conquest campaign mode in addition to single player, with three asymmetric factions fighting for control of an expansive universe. You can perform missions to strengthen your systems, and build facilities, defense fleets, etc. Pretty amazing stuff.

Great scary game. Tight in scope. Plays like a classic Resident Evil. Something very unsettling about playstation1 graphics. Hope they put out more good stuff.

I was very surprised to actually beat the game, it feels insurmountable and impossible at times. I really enjoyed my time with it, and I'll probably keep going back for more. I've played lots of VR games now, and White Door Games are very competent at making a solid game. I like that they aren't afraid to expand and try new things. The design decisions really came together, whether it's having to try and remember the route to each location (the wrist map only shows local area), or constantly on the edge of running out of resources.

The game itself is highly optimized for VR. There weren't any shortcomings as far as ease of use/comfort/UI design/etc.

Very high quality experience with the Valve Index compared to most other titles in this genre. Bugs were few and far between. Some issues with NPC AI pathing that could be improved, but still enjoyable. The gameplay is basic but solid: swing sword, shoot bow, point gun, launch spells; and I really enjoy that the designer has taken a more old-school approach to dungeon delving by designing his game around overcoming obstacles just as much as combat. I'd like to see more novelty in dungeon complexity, interactable objects, more tricks and traps, etc. I really think they are on to something, especially with co-operative play.

Don't mistake this review as an indicator that the game is not complex or the controls are too simple. Just because you can't perform preset combos or get additional effects from certain sequences does not detract from the game. In fact the opposite is true, less complexity here makes everything feel natural and more strategic.

On one hand the developers do have an uncompromising vision. On the other, that vision is a set of static missions that play out exactly the same, but that requires four people tightly working together with absolute skill and precision to survive swarms that appear like clockwork.

Probably the least suspenseful and least horror game I've seen. The focus is definitely on shooting and utilizing the right combination of weapons and teamwork.

But I don't know. I wasn't able to get that far into any of the missions since I only had one person to coop with and I didn't want to play a military simulator.

This game has excellent novelty until you bump against its limits. It is very immersive, and will scare you if you take it seriously. I recommend playing with at least one friend, which will make the experience more enjoyable and allow you to experience nearly everything the game has to offer.

The game is limited in scope however. You will only be going through a few of the same objectives over and over again, over about 6 maps. You will never do more than identify ghosts and leave the map. All difficulties are nearly identical and offer no major changes to strategy or approach. Investigations can be completed far to quickly once you have the hang of it. You will likely only use a handful of the full range of tools available to you, because some are clearly more effective than others. I was hoping the ghosts would have more individual personality, but they all just want to murder you to various degree.

I look forward to the inevitable sequel should the developers use their success wisely. Expanded ghost lists, maps, tools, ghost behaviors, personalities/motivations, ways to communicate, and spookings will greatly contribute to the longevity of the game. I look forward to the day where we can perform multi-day investigations, eventually culminating in the cleansing of the haunting.

Good job developers. This is a very good game for the limited scope you gave yourselves.

edit: Still a great game. The removal of over-powered tools has really improved the game. The state of the game after these updates and patches have kept the game from becoming stale with daily use. I've already logged another 10 hours or more this Halloween playing co-op.

Relaxing. Terrifying. Explore at your own pace. With tangible accomplishments you can see and benefit from.

Made my way from a starting city, across a mountain to a protected valley. Stayed there four days working my way up to creating a boat with my friend. Loaded the boat completely with our camp, hauled it out to sea. Sailed for 2 more real life days stopping on distant shores to trek inland in search of suitable wilderness at the edge of civilization. Finally found it by sailing to a different server.

Made our way into the wooded hills, quickly ambushed by three giant spiders, a troll, and a wolf. Ran and scattered. Found our way onto open tundra, giving us our bearings. Ran to the sea and jumped in to escape the monsters. Carefully played cat and mouse for the rest of the day hauling our supplies just far enough into the hills to establish our deed, Hoarfrost Keep.

Spoke to neighbors in the bay. Negotiated an alliance with one. Then another. Then one after another the rest joined. Now we have roads leading to all settlements. Turning into a trade hub. We call ourselves the Broccoli Hills Compact. Alliance is turning regional. The bones of our keep are in place. Not sure what the next week holds, but we've only been at it for 10 days.
