This was a very good game. A great example of how to make a single-player group adventure game. Extra good since the AI was smart enough not to need micromanaging, I could roleplay my character to my heart's content.

My only complaint is a lack of basic modern graphic features like Ambient Occlusion.

I'd definitely recommend this game for anyone who wants a very unique experience they may get tired of within a week or two. There really isn't any other game that comes close to providing a simulation of being an animal with animal needs doing animal things, with the threat of death always around the corner, and which makes you act and believe you are that animal.

I could be wrong, in that there may be more than a couple of weeks of novelty to this game. I bought it a week before the EVRIMA rebuild of the game. During that week I experienced the old build and all it's various issues. It had a ton of content, but the basics just were not there: combat itself lacked physics with dinosaurs able to pass through each other and very little feedback about whether a hit was successful, and a variety of other issues made it seem like I should uninstall.

After EVRIMA hit the experience was completely different. The world feels like an actual place. You are faced with real life challenges (undergrowth obscuring prey, travelling fast in dense undergrowth is confusing, and food and water are limited resources that draw you to specific areas). But the animations, physics, sound design, and pretty much everything about the new engine provides a solid basis for actual content. A big draw of the game for me so far has been travelling around the map exploring different locations for the sake of seeing what is there, and the vistas and views have not been disappointing in the least.

I also like that I get the opportunity to learn each dinosaur one at a time again instead of having dozens to choose from with a low chance of encountering those from my same species. Each species has completely different gameplay. The herbivores have to hide and seek out water and food very quickly, and are particularly vulnerable to the carnivores. This necessitates calling out for a pack for safety and constant migration to avoid the notice of groups of carnivores. As a carnivore you're under threat by everyone, and you can't even trust your own species because carnivores (while having less food needs than the current herbivores) are starving all the time. And they are starving all the time because it takes several adult carnivores to kill and take down an adult herbivore. A dead body can attract hordes of carnivores from all over looking to scavenge from it and kill each other for more food.

One of the more unique aspects of the game is that you don't need chat to communicate. Through movement, laying down, crouching, jumping, and 5 separate types of dinosaur vocalizations you can communicate relatively well your intent.

A novel game with novel elements. I think it was supposed to be longer but I made good choices and picked lucky points of interest. This is definitely a game you do not want to see spoilers on, otherwise it loses its novelty.

The game is a combination of elements:
1. Roguelike: movement , inventory, advancement, and exploration.
2. Five-Nights-At-Freddy's/Myst: Point and click to interact with elements of a mostly static screen.
3. Candy Box: The game appears to be one thing at first, then adds new elements that change the purpose of the game play and/or genre.

Excellent game. Somehow this made it on my ignore list when it first entered alpha, but I recently discovered how to remove games from the ignore list and there it was in all it's perfect glory.

KeeperRL is the best parts of Dungeon Master, mixed with the best parts of Dwarf Fortress, stewed into a fresh take on a dungeon management simulation. The game has innovative asynchronus multiplayer integration that allows you to invade other player's dungeons or share your own if you prove victorious.

If you have been looking for a gameplay loop that includes the following:
1. Build Base
2. Defend Base
3. Explore Dungeons for Treasure and Loot

This is the game for you.

I highly recommend purchasing this on itch.io and adding it to your steam library from there. The developer receives far more of a share on platforms other than steam.

X4 still stands out as the best open world space sim on the market. I thought the fps/walking gameplay would be a blunder and waste of time, but the devs really streamlined its use and it feels like a useful immersive feature. The menus and UI do an excellent job, and I really enjoy having interior cockpits that can be walked around in. The minor improvements that need to be made to the game all involve fixes to the AI and its priorities; something which this team has shown itself being capable of fixing in the past. I look forward to reaching a hundred hours in this game.

Spent a ton of time with this game when it first came out. It is such a good game for a quick 20 minute session, but it has a much longer campaign. It has the same game loop as a roguelike, but with a larger scope. Definitely recommend.

Feels like a good cooperative game. It can be a bit rough with only two people, but it is my second go-to game behind Hunt Showdown for co-op. I really enjoy exploring the caves, the worlds, mining, etc. I've come across some really unexpected things. The development has been meaningful, and I can easily see this game making it to a feature complete version without any major issues.

I've had my eye on Pulsar since 2013, and I felt it finally reached a state where it had enough content to be fun. Since trying it out, it has become my favorite co-op game to play. I love how deep the game mechanics are. The game vastly improves upon the ship mechanics established by Artemis Bridge Simulator, and adds a living breathing universe to explore, as well as away missions. My only criticism is that there isn't a deeper exploration system with multiple worlds within each star system. I know these aren't things that will ever be addressed by the game, but I hope the sequal or future iterations of this genre add scannable planets and deeper interactions rather than just a restricted map with scripted npc's and buildings.

Despite its shortcomings in scope, Pulsar makes significant contributions to the genre.

I've played an actual battletech galactic conquest campaign in person with friends from beginning to end. This was way better than that. It does away with the tedium of the tabletop game (specifically how long it takes to move and act with an entire lance), but retains all the same strategies and mechanics. It does a very good job of putting your missions in context with the larger galactic kingdoms.

I like playing DoomRL. I like playing Caves of Qud. This feels like I get to play both at the same time.
