Aside from hacking issues (not as common as you might think), I'm really pissed that I sometimes receive loot crates that require a purchased key to unlock.

Good but not good. Significant time investment is never rewarded, combat is about who can get actual bullets/guns (requiring blueprints) first. Would be a far more interesting game if it stuck to stone/bronze age or went straight to modern equipment. The gigantic leap between the two ends means that you will only be successful if you can get extremely lucky; not only finding a peaceful place to gather and build a shelter with electronic locks, but also keeping that shelter for long enough to work your way up the technology chain.

Cannot recommend this game at all, hours of karmic hell to scrabble into some modicum of civilization are only rewarded with being kicked back into karmic hell.

Excellent game. I hate early access titles, but roguelikes are inherently suited to be early access titles because you will be replaying the same content whether it is finished or not. I can tell that CoQ has always been a labor of love; it was a great game before the graphics and sounds were added, but their addition has only reinforced the quality of the game.

CoQ stands out among other roguelikes for it's unique setting, simulation, and adventures; sharing many of the things that make Dwarf Fortress great, but without the tediously detailed simulation found in adventure mode. The closest comparison I can provide would be the differences between D&D Basic/Expert/Companion/Master/Immortal and AD&D 1e. Both are essentially the same game, but in practical execution one is bogged down by procedures and rules [AD&D], and the other is free to circumvent simulation when it aids the flow of gameplay.

I could easily find myself buying this again on other platforms.

Not sure what I was thinking , but I gave it a negative review when it first released because of the poor quality of the port. However, I've probably played and replayed this game the most of any in the series except maybe Demon's Souls. It's one of the best. I still haven't beat it though, because it does take a good chunk of time to get through and relearn, and I always prefer to create a new character when I start playing it again.

Still, it never seems to get old. And scholar of the first sin keeps it very fresh.

This is just another mundane point-and-click action RPG with Marvel's branding slapped on it. If you have played Diablo, Path of Exile, Titan Quest, Torchlight, Dungeon Sige, Death Spank, Divine Divinity, Fate, or the hundreds of diablo-like games, there is nothing new to see here. If mindlessly pushing asdfgh while moving around your little man in tights is your thing, then this is the game for you. I gave the game a week of play, but no compelling reason to do something other than mindlessly level or grind for loot ever presented itself. The game is not designed around telling a story either, the cutscenes and plots are utterly forgettable.

The gameplay was impeded by too much mind numbing action and effects; literally you could play for 3 hours straight and never run out of endless waves of non-thinking enemies to blow up. Most times your own special effects or other people's would get you killed in dangerous situations (of which there were very few), by cluttering the screen with pointless flash and spectacle. I mean how thrilling is it see an electrical aura or giant magical explosion for the nth time? I'm not saying that they don't have their place, but when given away like candy it serves no purpose other than to cause some poor light-sensitive child to slip into a foam-mouthed seizure.

The difficulty is not adjustable without beating the entire story first; and about one chapter in I realized it was so pointless to clear my way through the ever expanding game maps, that I just started running through the whole thing and doing boss fights to progress. Usually when I play these kinds of games I try to pick a hardcore permadeath mode so at least there is some excitement, and hope that difficulty is tied to something besides just hp and damage. Neither of these attributes was kind enough to make an appearance in my time with the game.

I will say that they did a good job of populating the areas with explodable/damageable scenery.

It is 2014, gamers should demand more from their games than just static environmental sets and a mindless grind from level 1 to 50. There is alot to say about this game, but I just don't feel that this game warrants more thought. I hope that more people realize that the experience of playing the game is more valuable than the mirage of reward and achievement.

This game has very responsive and well designed controls, and really if you are a fan of the fantasy barbarian genre it is a must buy decision.
