关于 Cynical Guides

Welcome, Achievement Hunters!

This is simply a safe haven for Hunter's to collaborate with one another & discuss all things Achievements. If you need help with a specific Achievement, need a boosting partner, or just want to gush about your favourite video games then head over to the Discussions tab!

I will also be using this Community Group for new updates & announcements on my upcoming guides & projects as well.

This Group is public for anyone to join, but there are some ground rules that if not followed will result in your Comment being deleted or a permanent ban from this community:

Racism, hate speech, sexism, extreme language, or any kind of discrimination is not tolerated
No spam content (begging for Likes or Steam Points, repeated instances of the same Comment, or "copypasta")

January 2026 - Happy New Year!

Hey everyone, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great time over the holidays. I basically took the last two weeks of December off of work (& guides unfortunately) to spend with family & friends.

Sorry for the lack of progress & guide releases these last few months; as I mentioned in October I sort of started up too many games/guides & have yet to finish most of them. A LOT of in progress guides though... I think around 12 now in various stages of completeness. That being said, Blasphemous 2 IS finished as of a while ago, but it is taking me a really long time to edit it & create the Collectibles Maps for it. It ended up being 120 pages & has around 70 Collectibles Map... & I just got tired is all. Unfortunately I am only on page 50/120 so I still have a bit to go. But I will slowly chip away at it over this week & take all day Saturday or Sunday inputting it all into Steam to be released this weekend.

For the 2026 forecast, apart from the guides I already have going, there were quite a few good games on sale during the Steam Winter sale that I finally picked up for myself. As a few guaranteed guides I went to done for this year are: Red Dead Redemption 1, Jedi - Survivor, Cyberpunk 2077, Borderlands 2, Dead Island - Riptide, & most likely Batman - Origins (I am not entirely sure how to go about that one, but it has been highly requested for a really long time).

There are also a lot of other games I will be working on such as the next chunk of Assassin's Creed games, Crysis, & a few others. I never really know how I'll feel after finish this or that game, so I don't like locking down too much in case I need to pivot to a different genre for a break. I snagged the Last of Us over the sale, so I could potentially be covering them this year too.

Like I did with my old Half Life 2 guides & Shadow of Mordor, I hope to also try & remaster some of my older 2019-2020 guides to elevate them to my new quality standard. For this year I will most likely be tackling my Metro 2033 & Metro Last Light guides as they were some of my first guides... & kind of suck in my opinion. Fortunately, remasters are never that time consuming as I get to essentially follow my own guide through a 100% instead of writing it all from scratch & just re-writing or re-formating poor descriptions. Eventually I hope to go back to my Bioshock 1, Darkness 2, Shadow of War, & Dark Souls 2 SotFS guides & remaster them as well... My Final Fantasy 15, Dragons Dogma, & Nier Automata guides also need remastering... but those are very big games/guides & will be big time sinks, so I'll be saving those for last & probably just doing one a year or something.

That's about it. Business as usual for this year. I am officially back from holidays as of today & hope to get back into the swing of things & try to be more productive. Happy Hunting, everyone!

Hey everyone, sorry for taking so long to release anything for the last while. I promise I AM working on stuff; at minimum I will have another four guides out before the end of the year, but hopefully I will have an additional two to release as well.

Some of the guides (like Elden Ring) will be carried over into early next year & there will be a big glut release of all the other guides I couldn't get done like what happened this year.

I have about 8 guides on the go at the moment, as well as taking a more aggressive stab at my Halo Master Chief Collection guide; trying to do at least 2/6 of the games a year. Means it will be out sooner, but it is also a huge time sink for me... as I am basically writing 6+ guides I can't release until they are all done. I could release the Parts as I complete them, but if I end up making Achievement numbering changes due to the cross-game Achievements... it could really mess me up since there are 700 Achievements in MCC. It is way faster to make edits to a Word document than it is to a Steam Guide... or multiple Steam Guides.

I have classically got myself with too many guides on the go once again, which does keep me sane but unfortunately slows down monthly releases by a lot. I have also been playing a few games "for fun" which I rarely do these days; the new Skate 4 game came out a few weeks ago, & I am an OG fan. I won't be doing a guide for it until it is fully released, if I even decide to... I have mixed feelings on the game. Gameplay slaps, but it lacks content, & it is hyper monetized. Not in your face at least, but clearly that was their focus for Early Access. If the full release doesn't have a career mode...

But, I will be uploading my Dead Island guide sometime this weekend - probably on Saturday. It has actually been done for a while, but I wanted to wait until I did the guide for Riptide since it is a direct continuation of Dead Island (import your Character kind of thing). But, I haven't started it yet since I already have too many guides going, so I will wait until I finish Blasphemous 2. Which should be a November release. So Dead Island will be out, & yes, I will be getting to Riptide as my next guide to hopefully have out November/December if I can swing it.

Fortunately, my day job's work load really slows down once the snow hits, so I in theory will have a lot more time for gaming/writing when that happens. Hoping to have a productive November to March. In my five years of writing guides, I don't think I have ever had anyone come after me about taking too long, & it is something I really appreciate about this community. Happy pre-Halloween, & thank you all for your patience.

My guide for Red Dead Redemption 1 is fully edited now, & I will have it uploaded to Steam sometime tomorrow (I could do it by tonight, but it will still take me 3-4 hours to do it & I'm tired, so I'll save it for tomorrow).

I enjoyed replaying RDR1 so much... I am rolling straight into RDR2; I have never actually played it before yet & am excited to check it out. Unfortunately... having just finished my preliminary Achievement research... it looks like a MASSIVE 100% for only 34 Achievements (the other 17 being for Online which do not actually seem that bad). Wish me luck; this guide is going to probably be my doozy for 2026!

That's a tough one Nash; ME is a one of a kind masterpiece & I have never really found a comparable game. Andromeda is no good, so I wouldn't recommend it. If you are looking for games with good stories I'd recommend the Witcher series, Last of Us, the Arkham Series, the Nier series, & Days Gone. I'm sure there is way more I didn't touch on, but these are at least the ones I've played.

Dragon Age - Origins is probably the most similar in epic story & companion/gameplay though it is a fantasy RPG not Sci-Fi. Very great game, but old & unfortuntely doesn't have Achievements on Steam :(. Similarly, the Knights of the Old Republic games are also quite old but have great stories & decision making.

I recently finished ME legendary edition with your guide and just wanted to say I had a blast and I can't find a game to complete that made me feel like this one haha, any recommendations ?(from your guides or not)

Nioh has been a game series I really want to come back to... I actually started Nioh 1 back in 2020 when I first started doing guides; it's about 1/3 done. I got distracted by other games & never came back. BUT, once I eventually finish Elden Ring, I am for sure going back to finish it.
