Items destroyed on death?

So I'm playing survival difficulty and I beamed down to a planet during an electrical storm. I stepped into a body of water that got struck by lightning and died, when I returned all my items were gone. Were they destroyed by the lightning or something? I've never seen my items just get nuked like that before.

FU does nothing whatsoever to change item decay.
