Wow, this mod was a mess 10 years ago and it still is? What the ****? (expletives for emphasis)

I'll say my piece and leave - one too many dry saltines in these threads for my taste, BUT, and this is directly for you, behgins, and not for whoever they are with much advice but no actual insight:


- Why, with dozens of bug reports listed, is the only sticky post one about voice acting?

- How in the hell are there still mechanics and balance issues in vanilla units after all this time?

- Why is there broken english *anywhere* in this mod with money coming in from donors? Shouldn't one of the goals be to hire a ****ing editor for an hour or two of work?

- How is it that basic features aren't optimized or properly finished when new content is being crammed into the production pipeline - seemingly expensive new content?

- Why?

- Why?

- How much time has been spent on this and why isn't it worth perfecting into "the most perfect space RTS ever"? What?


Anyway, I see this is salty upon very close examination, but I also want to make clear my sense of moral fury at having come by to check this mod out after rejecting it many years ago for various issues. I was hugely excited then because of the premise, but walked away annoyed with it. I was really pretty excited to be reminded of it - reasoning that after a decade or so it should be polished into Freespace 2 FSO style excellence...

I'm annoyed again - the very idea - and I won't be subscribing, and high-five to the 42k or so who have and all the percentage of them who really like this mod. This is a really cool thing to do for a masterpiece of a game and I can't imagine how much work has gone into it... and I say again, isn't that ****ing work and devotion worth cleaning up the place, watering the lawn, fixing the leaking pipes, re-doing the badly fitting trim, maybe updating the hideous kitchen and bathroom now that the money is there? Come on man, what in the hell is even happening here? You have a thing of greatness, take care of it.

Also I usually eject myself in cowardly fashion after saying things likely to draw the salty fire of old campaigners, but I'm actually curious about this topic so... i may return. For now though, it's the silent treatment, as is my wont. Think of this as a an angry pedestrian loudly pointing out the obvious deficiencies with some kind of street repair effort then walking off with their small dog in tow. Later he or she will regret their tirade, but only briefly.
