How about this - have the defence upgrades for both player and AI give more than infantry and few MG's ? Maybe even a single dug-in vehicle to help defend the point ? (Like maybe a mortar, or even an AT gun, ammo crate ? Something like that)

Or have the point start with engineers that will then go around and start building razor wire patches, hedgehogs rows and trenches, so if you are fast enough you can bomb them before they are fully dug up so the player still has some agency if they are fast enough ?
