Night Terrors will make the nights crawl with things ancient and evil.
There will be unpredictability, a touch of chaos — some might even say madness.
This mod is for those who dare to venture out into the dark, not knowing what lurks around the corner.


If you’re considering adding Night Terrors to your Conan Exiles experience, please review the following details and limitations to decide whether it fits your preferred style of play.

Over time, I hope to expand customization and reduce these constraints. For now, this post serves as a living document to provide as much transparency as possible.

  1. Timing: Night Terrors encounters can occur between 21:00 and 05:00 game time for players level 10 or higher, when outside of a base or land-claimed area.
  2. Aggro Behavior: Creatures from encounters will chase players a short distance and may pursue them into bases or claimed areas, potentially attacking other players, thralls, or NPCs.
  3. Login Delay: After logging in a 5 real-time minute timer will count down before checking for ambush conditions etc. This is to give players logging into a server while night is active a chance to get their bearings.
  4. Ambush Frequency: During the night, the game checks every 30 real-time seconds for an 80% chance to trigger an ambush (if conditions are met and no other ambush is active). Expect 2–4 ambushes per night when traveling continuously, though RNG adds variability.
  5. Despawn Timing: Ambush creatures remain in the world for five real-time minutes if left unengaged. This timer only progresses when a player is present. If all players leave the area, the timer pauses and resumes when they return — meaning ambushes can persist past dawn.
  6. Thrall Capture: The same five-minute timer applies to unconscious corrupted valkyrie thralls. Players must drag them to a wheel of pain before the timer expires, or they will vanish.
  7. Difficulty Scaling: Encounter difficulty increases with player level, with the most dangerous variants appearing at level 60+. World-boss-level creatures are rare but possible at this tier.
  8. Creature Variety: Encounters primarily consist of demons and undead, though a few eight-legged variants may appear occasionally — players with arachnophobia should take note.
  9. System Compatibility: The ambush system supports only one ambush type at a time. If Funcom’s Sacred Hunt event is active, its werehyena ambushes will stop once a Night Terrors ambush occurs.
  10. Multiplayer: Ambush timers exist for each player on the server. This means if you are playing with a friend, each of you may be ambushed at or near the same time. Also,if you have disabled encounters for yourself via the admin, you may still be prone to ambushes if your friends have not disabled theirs.

dc ambush list

To disable Night Terrors ambushes:
dc ambush disable DeviousMirth_NightTerrors
(Reconnecting to the game or server may be required to re-enable Sacred Hunt werehyena ambushes.)

To enable Night Terrors ambushes:
dc ambush enable DeviousMirth_NightTerrors
(Reconnecting to the game or server may be required for ambushes to trigger again.)
