so, the body parts getting corrupted - nothing I can do there. this mod adds a new body part (you can probably guess why) and doing that mid-save can will break stuff
reproductives are technically hediffs, yes, but not really. reproductives don't tick or do anything, they're basically arbitrary data points you can slap onto any pawn. this implementation of hidden not-really-hediffs might seem weird but it does knock out two birds with one stone
what you've described is 100% possible but do keep in mind it's probably going to be a nightmare. while you may be able to fix your colonists, that doesn't fix, say, all the world pawns that have been generated. especially with mods like vfe empire which generate tens of world pawns from the start. so while it is technically possible to fix things up, I don't recommend you add the mod midsave
