A Lovely Character! But Some Suggested Patch Notes
Tenna has become my favorite character! But playing him feels like you're at a disadvantage

Hey, I just wanted to say that I absolutely adore this mod! I know I and a couple of friends have commented a lot, and I hope it doesn't get annoying. But we all think the character's so much fun and just wanna see him continue improving! I'll write what we all agreed on in our experience, but know that these are just suggestions and it's your character. You've done such a good job! (I'll put a TLDR at the bottom).

The first big issue is his kill power
It feels nearly impossible to take a stock with most of his move! The most egregious example comes from side strong and back air.

Several times I have hit with the new sweet spot of back air to a character well above 120%, nearing the edge of the stage, and it just will NOT KILL! The sweet spot should send straight horizontal and launch further, because it is just useless in it's current state.

Then there's the side strong. It seems to have around the same (maybe even less) killing power as side tilt. And both are TERRIBLE at killing! I have failed to take a stock with friends at 200% on the edge of the stage. This move is very slow and difficult to hit, so the reward should be a great kill move! Keep the side tilt the same, but PLEASE add more knock back to side strong.

Don't get me wrong, he shouldn't be TOO good at killing. His moves are great for combos, he builds up damage fast! But if I hit a side special into a side strong at the edge of the stage and someone is at 200%, it should absolutely take that stock! Having just two moves that can kill around 120% would be nice.

The next issue comes from popularity

It's a little too difficult to gain popularity, really easy to lose it. I'm honestly fine with it being so difficult to keep it if you get hit, but I just think his taunt should recover it MUCH faster. (Also, you can taunt after spawning, before you get off of platforms. While this is funny, it slows down game play a lot. Maybe make it where popularity doesn't gain until invincibility frames go away? Or, make it where you get popularity filled instantly. Either way make it where people don't sit on the platform gaining popularity where no one else gets to play the game.)

Also, while you're at it, the dancing music is really quiet. I'd love to hear it without it being much quieter than the rest of my audio. (Though maybe this is because my sound effects are quieter than my music in game? Not sure how it works.)

But even when you get popularity. It barely feels like the moves are worth it. Down special is great! But charging it uses so much of your meter it's not really worth it. Side special is well balanced, but it costs so much! And even the slightest attack deletes it. I wish I could use it with like, 30% of my meter instead of 50%. It's a hard move to hit and easily countered.

That neutral special? It's completely useless. In it's current state it takes so long to freeze and you'll get hit before you benefit at all. Tenna could benefit from a projectile, so maybe something more akin to Bowser fire breath in smash? Something that gives a bit of hitstun at least.

Lastly, I'd like a way to choose when I do a projectile the forward air. I think it'd be nice if the forward air didn't stop your momentum unless you pressed the attack button a second time. And if you had some popularity, it'd shoot the projectile then. This would be nice for mix ups, and I wouldn't randomly use my meter when I don't want to.

That hurt-box man... Also final notes.

Okay, this last one I'm admittedly a bit more iffy on. But the hurt box is his biggest weakness by far! His head peaks through the top of platforms, causing any attack above to hit him. He is a full course meal for combo characters. Projectile characters don't have to aim because this man is a brick wall! It's BRUTAL. For him to be better, his height should be lowered.

However... it would be less funny. And Tenna is a funny little (big) guy, and that's more accurate to Deltarune. And I want him to be a funny guy. So I don't know if it's necessary, even if it'd help him be better.

He's also got some good aspects that should be kept a little in check. Dash attack is really annoying and a little too easy to combo into itself. I'd like to see a version of it that is good that doesn't requiring turning off the move for spamming it (but I did find that to be a funny solution and wouldn't mind it returning). And he's very heavy. It helps balance his hurt box, but it slows games to a crawl. Lack of kill power mixed with being such a heavy weight makes games take way longer than most other match-ups.

TL:DR

  • Give Side Strong much better knockback (better kill power).
  • Change Back Air hit angle to be more horizontal, give it a significant increase in knockback (kill power).
  • Increase the speed that taunt gives popularity.
  • Remove ability to gain popularity while invincible on the spawn platform.
  • Reduce cost of side special, increase the cool down between uses.
  • Change neutral special completely. (Or at least, give it some hit stun and slight knockback.
  • Reduce cost of charged down special.
  • Allow momentum on forward air AND...
  • Allow a second input on forward air. This would stop your momentum, and shoot the star projectile out if you have the popularity.
  • Slightly reduce height of Tenna. (Maybe????)
  • Slightly reduce weight of Tenna.
  • Nerf dash attack... somehow. Too spam-able. (Maybe give it a slight cool down?)

Again, I absolutely adore this mod! I hope these suggestions don't come off as annoying. Even if you don't do any of these, Tenna will still be one of my most played characters. Keep up the great work!

I agree with everything here except reducing the hurtbox, I think if you buffed the rest of these suggestions tenna should still be easy to hit, but either way I think these are all good suggestions

if you did the forward air suggestion and back air, and gave his side strong more knockback, while nerfing dash attack this character would be perfect, chef's kiss.

FYI for anyone looking in the future, pretty much everything I suggested was updated by the creator. They are very cool go support them!
