Sometimes the character dissapears when entering the shop or starting a run, for some reason restarting the run gives the character back. This is probably a bug that isn't easy to fix i am guessing.

Hey boardingboy4, does this only happen on the first wave, or also on other waves?
I did encounter that bug, but I'm really not sure why this happens. At least for me it happened very rarely and I couldn't find a pattern.

Only first wave and its indeed very rare when it happens
