I second this... seems very strange that a pawn can't cast most of these abilities on themselves

Not being able to Word Of Immunity yourself does seem pretty odd. Until/unless it gets fixed, you can get around it by crafting a Psyring of Psyring with a Technomancer, giving it to the Protector, then making the Protector craft a Psyring of each ability. The technomancer can then take those rings and use those abilities on the Protector.

This is why I consider Technomancer the strongest psycaster. They are able to synergize and multiply the power of all other caster types.

More importantly, the Protector can regrow limbs but can't heal scars.

+1 Thanks, I did notice it working before because it's slow and targets body parts randomly for each tic of healing. Soon my colonists shall be pristine.

I found this out the hard way by decided to make a person missing an entire arm my protector psycaster :/ I think it kind of fits though, Rimworld being a story generator and all. I interpret it as one of god's many jokes, making the person able to regrow limbs unable to regrow her own.
