Compared to the Longbowman, all they have is a large shield and 2 more Hit Points for the cost of 5 iron per Mantlet, and being Slow.
I feel at the very least they should have upgraded range, like the Enchanted Longbowman.
Unless I am running at a major surplus of iron, I would never consider to get these units.
I'll think about giving them something, maybe removing slow.
I am rereading my original comment, and I seem very rude, sorry, that wasn't my intention.
I've reduced the cost of Mantlets to 15 and gave them an extra HP, They're meant to be resilient rather than deal more damage as longbows are already pretty good weapons.
IMO, the gimmick of special recruitables at each start citadel makes more sense for Senator than Baron, as historically the Romans made heavy use of auxillaries whereas feudal kingdoms did not do so quite as much. Good mod, though.
The reason I did it for the Baron over the Senator is that although you can become a King the late-game options for the Baron are lacking more than the Senator as the Senator can become an Emperor, get more variety of casters, and has some other features which the Baron doesn't.
It's also my sneaky way of giving the Baron some more planes-worthy soldiers without making them always available to the Baron. Plus they're good at taking and holding fortress with their above-average siege weapons, the special recruitables are an extra bonus for taking some fortresses.
I did want to make the Baron more Water/Air/Agatha/Planes worthy somehow.
I recently released a new class btw, the Pirate Lord.
Also, why thier sword not magic. when that seems like running them for relics. seems bit like they heavy invest in the rare unit but dont give em a magic sword an lance.
