some questions regarding hand held weapons.
did the flame throwers get a nerf? or scorpions and spiders a boost? the flame throwers seem underwhelming lately, like i quit using them they are so ineffective. i remember them being far more effective against the teeny tiny's especially.but now i wind up getting bit/stung and setting myself on fire before killing them. really before switching weapons and killing them.

is the scout rifle being removed? i notice its not in the tech tree anymore though traders till buy them and i did find one once as loot. Say it ain't so, love that thing. i didn't *see* it mentioned in the change log, though suspect i am legally blind when it comes to such things.

i just grabbed a plasma rifle from an ultra rare and with its nice range, tried to snipe sentry guns. first, the inaccuracy negated the range to a large degree, second, 3 direct hits and about as many collateral before i finally took out 1. I tried it later on some spiders, the spitting blue(charon?) guy took like 4 hits to down. so its bad against mechanical, bad against biological. What's it good for?
Same for the one that has 2000 rounds but can't be reloaded. It was ineffective against everything, in my opinion, especially for an epic weapon. am i missing something?


Can someone tell me what SMG's are good for? i really wanted to like the FN-P90... err elite SMG i think its called, especially since i don't use the pistol laser ammo much but am swimming in it. i'm just not seeing it. They fire under water, okay. 99 times out of 100 that's not a thing. With the severe recoil even for the laser version, talking ammo economy the shot gun has them beat, and for rate of fire, the pulse rifle and even the assault rifle have them beat since less recoil means more hits. There just isn't a roll i see it filling other than using all that pistol ammo i wind up with.
I mean there are weapons i don't like for various reasons, but i still see their use. i don't like shot guns, but that's play style, etc. SMG's need some love don't they?

Changes to the way explosions affect entities in 1.10 has caused damage issues with any explosive weapon.

The plasma rifle has 0 inaccuracy. It's a launcher-type weapon, which means it has no bulletspread. It goes where you point.
It deals 340 damage per hit, and has damage bonuses of +10% vs Aerodrones and Humanoid targets, and +20% damage vs Mechanoids. How many shot it takes to kill an enemy depends on the level of the enemy and your ability to point it at them.

SMGs are a close-range bullet dump. They pour rounds into a single target at close range, like a shotgun but are usable at medium range. They do this very fast, able to dump 1500+ damage into a target in 2 seconds with one of the fastest reload times.

That's what i thought, but about a dozen shots from range(near its max don't remember exactly) at a sentry gun on an abandon barracks, some were dead to rights(about 3) and i watched some drift up to 2 blocks from the target. I'm talking the plasma rifle, (red with a scope), not the plasma cannon(two fire modes), though i really doubt you are confused(i may be), just want to be clear. but yeah, about 9 of 12 shots were definitely missing the target to varying degrees.

can anyone else confirm seeing this for me?

while I can't remember the level of the poi. Two rockets did the same work as the plasma shots(3 direct hits, 3 collateral at least) so yeah, meh.

even if i don't like to use the weapon i like to be able to use the weapon, see its value. and i just don't see it here. the recoil is atrocious. at medium range it renders them ineffective, in my oh so humble opinion. at the very least far out paced by something more accurate. at close range the shot gun seems superior for a variety of reason. Even the mini gun seems more effective, while it may not reload nearly as fast, it fills this niche far better, at least the tier 2 and especially the laser when you find it.
love to see a vid of someone running with SMG's. none of gamers i watch do.

no word on the scout rifle huh.

You're gonna have to wait for RE2, with the complete weapon+enemy+damage overhaul to see any significant changes.
