What seed did you use? I started a game of RE on Omicron and I found six Carbon Substrate deposits on normal. You could use the map command in the console to see if there are any deposits.

I have asked my question elsewhere as well as here, and many of the responses have the same trend: when I say 'graphite', people reply about 'carbon substrate'. These 2 terms are not the same, they don't even look the same and AFAIK they are not interchangeable.
What is going on here? I have neither searched for nor found any 'carbon substrate'. I asked **SPECIFICALLY** about graphite; I didn't even mention carbon substrate. I cannot comprehend how these 2 separate terms can be so confusing to some people. Am I missing something here, or are simple reading and comprehension skills so poor in most people?

The in-game planetary map CLEARLY states that 22 graphite deposits exist. Please tell me again about how they don't....

I subscribed to RE in the workshop. Launching a new game, I chose the RE scenario. The loading screens clearly say RE instead of the usual loading screen. I'm starting to follow the RE story. I fail to see how I am not in fact playing RE.
If it is not RE, it's doing a VERY good impression of being RE; someone went to a LOT of trouble to make it look just like RE.
I'm skeptical of your claim that it is not RE....

They yield carbon substrate and graphite.

Carbon substrate is a crafting material but can be crafted from plant fibers and crushed stone.
Graphite is only used as a trading commodity.

Graphite deposits are found only on the starting planets I believe, and since you can craft carbon substrate the deposits are not required in any way to progress.

Graphite deposits? When did that happen? I must be getting a bug because when I fired up a new game of RE on Omicron it said Carbon Substrate and when I mined it I got Carbon Substrate. Not Graphite.

Additional information is usually a good thing - but now I'm even more confused. The in-game map info clearly indicates that 22 graphite deposits exist on Omicron. I don't know if Omicron is a starting planet (can't even imagine what a 'non-starting planet' might be) but, given that I have no other scenario / planet mods in my current game, and that Omicron was listed right there in the game options, I'm guessing Omicron IS probably a starting planet in RE.
To be clear - I have found neither deposits of graphite, nor deposits of carbon, nor deposits of carbon substrate. Hence this additional information has not helped me in the slightest to understand what the heck is going on here.

Use the map command in the console. That will reveal the whole map. Then just look and see if they are there. If they are not it must be a bug.

OK - there ARE graphite deposits on Omicron. Despite uncovering about 1/3 of the planet, and finding approximately 1/3 of all iron, silicon, and copper deposits (hence my expectation of discovering at least ONE graphite deposit), it's as if someone looked at the area I have uncovered and decided, "Right - we'll put all the graphite deposits everywhere but in *THAT* area, or close to it!"
At least I now know that it's not a bug, and I'm not wasting my time this playthrough - I was just *extremely* unlucky.

on omicron you can find graphite deposits, if you mine these deposits you get carbon substrate.

pritty silly if you mining Graphite and you getting carbon substrate instead, it`s like mining gold but getting copper instead. My point is if you mine a diposit you shuld get that mineril out of it not a substitute.
There is many server out there that are setup to craft Superconductors and heat shielding and so on that need graphite

IRL graphite mining yields pure graphite, and multiple other carbon compounds, just as in the game. If you pay attention when you mine you will realize that some other deposits yield more than one type of ore, which makes sense if you compare it to real mining which usually has many different ores mixed, or ores that contain multiple compounds of interest (bauxite ("aluminium ore" also contains iron, nickel ores are part silicates, which are the main source of industrial silicon and so on...)

To correct your analogy, it would be like mining gold and obtaining 10% gold, 10% copper, and 80% silicates, which are refined into pure silicon. The same as mining graphite and obtaining 10% graphite and 90% mixed carbon. Deposits are almost never pure, and thinking otherwise is a fundamental misunderstanding of how ressource extraction works.

For the servers in question, it's their responsability making it accessible, as they made it into more than just a trading commodity.
