Mod Suggestion; vanilla factions expanded samurai
It would be very interesting to see a new faction based on feudal japan. It could include a ton of new gear (kabutos, katanas, tetsubos, yumi bows, tanegashima muskets, etc ...) And maybe some singular duel mechanics with an honor system, which would be similar to Royalty and which conditions your settler somehow in exchange for some interesting benefit. There could also be lone samurai or ronin who travel the map in search of worthy opponents. There could also be different types of enemies like ashigaru and samurai that command them. Other than maybe shinobi who jump walls and throw shurikens and smoke bombs.

Adding to your idea in raids if the leader of the faction is in the raid they could/might request one of your melee fighters to a duel and if you win the duel you get honor if you lose the duel you don't lose honor or gain but the leader does a finishing blow on your colonist and if you decline the duel and kill the leader you will lose a lot of honor.

It's a great idea and I had imagined something like that. If you win, you may gain reputation with all samurai factions. But if you win without honor or kill them all, you lose both reputation and honor.
I hope Oskar Potocki see this, that would be a legendary add on

(especially the idea of beating the honorable leader with power armor)

We have European factions (medieval), Norse factions (Vikings), Western/cowboy factions (settlers), Bugs, and robots. I think its only natural they would do with some sort of Asian based faction next. And feudal Japan has lots of super unique culture to work with. Plus, rice fields.:MysteryDiamond:
I think it'd be cool. However, i'd personally say to keep it open; I also think a ancient chinese pack would also be cool.
This would be cool I think. I would personally do it so that it is a reclamation faction rather than just randomly feudal Japanese guys running around, sorta a "return to tradition" type group that eschews high tech for personal honor and what they consider an ideal society.

Much like some of the other factions introduce storytellers with their own gimmicks, like the viking restless raiding or whatnot, this one could likewise introduce a storyteller with an honor system, where your pawn moods or events that happen are influenced by how honorable the colony is, with honor being gained or lost for particular actions or using certain technology deemed bad/wrong/evil.

Definitely agree, Rimworld seems to have a large lack of Feudal Japan content for 1.2 and it would be a welcome addition. The matchlock suggestion might need to be toned down a bit or made to be 'late-game' technology considering the theme of these feudal mods and the fact that it wasn't a super big thing until trade with the Portuguese. Though that's just a matter of taste for me, since gunpowder weapons spread like the plaque the moment they were introduced in the sengoku period.

Would be easier to wrap it up into an ancient asia pack or something like that so there would be more than just japan maybe something todo with the giddyup mod as a patch for china or something were they would have a higher chance of spawning riding elephants rather than other mounts either way i would love to see japanese stuff

Bumping to say Yes, a Shogun faction would be a cool addon
sneaky ninjas with grappling hooks, smoke grenades and caltrop traps... u guys imagine medieval ninjas, or some kind of more modern gray fox take? how about infiltrating an enemy colony with ninjas in worker clothes, to assassinate the leader or just steal stuff, plant some bombs and so on? btw i think defeated "honorable fighters" should be able to get recruited instantly, and should be likely to have some bionics too if not medieval(could be something hybrid like vikings, traditional japanese culture with "artifacts") and i think japan adds enough, mixed asian culture i dont know. tabi, tea and katanas.
really dig the duels. could give vikings that feature too(circle of shields). why not challenge other factions to duels aswell, via comm? like, if you want to win a tribute, or if you just want them to respect you enough to ally. oh, raid parties showing up, making you choose between battle and a duel. and a long lasting opinion buff, "ugly -2, rescued me +2, honored the colony+5, hard worker vs lazy -3"
