I wish I had tried this mod before building a long used mod list for XCOM 2. Having played the game for so long with selected mods, I decided to give LW2 a look. After several hours of play, I decided LW2 was simply not much fun. I like the idea of a longer campaign but dislike many of the changes the LW2 mod makes (infiltration, class changes, resistance management).

if you're reading this, ignore this mod and get war of the chosen and download long war of the chosen instead. also ignore the idiots like artuurs and nobunaga, the mod is hard but it's fair. many people have beaten it just fine even on legendary and people are working on beating beyond legendary (which is actually unfair)

(2/2) And im guessing it was a mistake for me this whole time, to always take 8 guys per missions, sorry for taking advantage of a new feature, i wish someone would of told me. So i can only take 7 day missions? And getting almost nothing from victories. Its taking so long. Endless pointless scanning on the geomap. You made silencers and stocks worthless. Hacking is even a bigger mistake you could make. The enemies have gotten so dangerous, long before i could possibly spare to upgrade everyone to the next tier, youre insane man. This is so unfun, i very much would rather prefer the vanila game i feel like, lol. Long War is impressive but it sucks hahah.

(1/2) This mod was initialy exciting and fun. But its no longer fun. Infact its just straight up impossible now once the Muton Centurions and crap ton of Mutons at once start appearing, and no amount of save scumming helps anymore. The maps are so small, youre completely surrounded when you start missions, you will without fail, run into multiple groups at same time and die. The surveilance drones completely kill stealth now, theres no point to it. Alot of the classes, old and new, are built for close ranges, meanwhile enemies never come to you, you have to come to them, and so youre forced to dash while suffering, like, wtf. Why does the game spam you with tons of 0 day, 1 day, 2 days missions, theres no time for you to infiltrate them, if you try with just 1 guy, its still not enough time and you will die, its impossible, i dont understand.

Apparently this mod has a love/hate relationship with the XCOM community. When I started playing it, the excess missions became tedious, and you were forced to complete most if not all in order to stay one step ahead of the aliens and Advent. the introduction of gause weaponry precluded the need to invest in plasma weapons. Each stage of weapon development had a LW2 equivalent. I think this whole mod was just a demonstration of how excellent the LW2 team come up come with something. To show off their talents. When they became Pavonis, the flagship game was Terra Invictius, which I was sorely disappointed in. It was just another version of Long War 2: excessively long and tedious.

It's for masochists only. Way harder than base game, it is undeniably well put togheter but it's way to difficult. Too many enemies, even with 100% concilement. Bullshit RNG, the game is set up in a way where you are going to lose soldiers, and a bunch of them too. I really love the new classes and the slower approach with more missions but absolutely hate everything else.

Though that one only has gameplay mods, no QoL mods.

And no idea about LW2 Collections, never played that one. Also, never really noticed any mess with LwotC. To me it simply feels better than LW2, also since it has the WotC advantage of having much better loading times.

@dementia gaming: No, it is not compatible with WotC, it does work with the 2 DLC's, aka Alien ruler and Shen's Last gift, but not with WotC.
If you want to play with WotC you must use the Long War of the Chosen mod, which is basically a port of LW2 to WotC, which was done by fans instead of Pavonis Interactive.

@yo_jimbo Two 75% acc. misses adds up to just 1/16, a better chance than critical hits in D&D (1/20). It's likely to happen ever mission or so!

Genuinely good and well put together mod. I missed two 75% chances to hit on an alien and he killed both of my soldiers so I alt-F4'd and uninstalled the game.

Would using this with the communityhighlander mod cause any problems in the long run?

@Redmage this mod and the original were designed to try and recapture the feel of the original games. Which are rather infamous for being punishingly difficult in a way that is rarely found in games today.

@Boshty this is 2 because there is a long war mod for XCOM:EU, making this mod the sequel to the first one, thus making it a long war 2
Also the difference between the two is that one is for normal XCOM 2 and the other one is for the War of The Chosen DLC

Can you even win this? First time I lost, which was fair, because I still needed to get a feel for the management part. Second time I had a better grip, but barely got to a good enough sience/techlevel in time, while still getting my sh*t kicked in on every mission. Third time I used console commands to get infinite resources. Managed to get all the research done, great equipment, great soldiers and just encountered the first avatar, just to be told afterwards I'm missing shadow chamber projects to do anything with it. Projects that never triggered btw. And boom, again at random the game gives me the losing cutscene. Like, wtf even is this???

Shit mod. DL this if you want to rage quit. Takes the whole XCOM bullshit aiming to the max. Flanked an enemy from 4 tiles away? Congrats, 58% hit chance that you miss. Enemy is 6 tiles away in half cover? 17% hit chance, you missed. Don't do this to yourself

Whenever I activate this MOD, my game refuses to launch, is this because I have DPI set to 200%? I have bad vision and my screen is very large so I need the DPI.

I have tried to install Long War 2 five times, and every time, I don't get the Long War icon, I just get the normal "New Game" icon, which I presume means that LW2 is not working! Any help?

I hate this mod. It's just like the first LW mod: the ideas are great and the new class system is awesome, but the campaign is horrible. This mod just makes the campaign way longer and A LOT more unfair.

You need to run this with Vanilla XCOM2 selected in the launcher. Don't expect any updates since Pavonis Interactive moved on to work on their own game, Terra Invicta, which takes the same concept as XCOM2 but focuses on strategic gameplay and expands the scope of the campaign to the entire solar system.

This is the vanilla pre-War of the Chosen version of Long War 2. If you have WotC you need to run Long War of the Chosen. This will not run with the Community Highlander (it inclused the original Highlander) or any mods for WotC.
