This route looks Amazing don't know how i haven't found this before today, i lived though the 1950's as a child and remember coal fires and all the Factories churning out the Grime. Thank You.

midenjohn, I tried to use level crossings to stop the cars but to no avail, so I just close my eyes and hope for the best!

Very impressive route and reminds me of the 60s in the Manchester/Halifax/Huddersfield/Leeds areas. Just enough grime and lots of "hidden" sidings. Not happy with the road users ploughing through my train LOL

Well Simon, I have published 10 scenarios on your route, and they are all getting support.
I will re-visit the route at a later date.
Luckily I now know my way around a bit, and in the future I won't be spending most of my time trying to figure out where the hell I am!! I had great fun, so thank you so much for creating this route. Well done.

Just to add my thoughts again. This route is brilliant. I am looking forward to adding a J94 soon.

Hi Simon, You might like to try my N.S786, to see what is manufactured at Hick, Hargreaves & Co. I had some fun with it.

That is great Warwick.
Officially I gather, the air quality near my grandparent's was the 4th worst in Britain.
It was amazing travelling up from Kent (we lived on hill east of Canterbury, with wheat opposite, hops and orchards), as I would smell it in between Sheffield and Rotherham. To me as a a child it was incredibly exciting. The smells were intoxicating, as I could officially have dirty mucky fun - as there was NO option! The road kerb had cinders and black dust lining it all the time, which was to be avoided if there was a strong wind.
The best smell though was the fish & chip shop at the corner of the road 1 minute away, where large shop cut chips were served, in an open cone of newspaper.

It was on a visit to a small urban pigsty in Macclesfield, in Cheshire, in the late 1950s at the age of 5, that I was taught a local variation on a famous little rhyme.

"Dear beloved brethren, isn't it a sin
To peel a new potato and throw away the skin?
The skin feeds the pigs, and the pigs feed thee;
Dear beloved brethren, wouldst thou not agree?"

The smell of the pigsty was fairly strong, although not unpleasant on that particular occasion.

Adding odour to Train Simulator is an interesting idea. Used sparingly and with appropriate user-configured options it could very well enhance the experience at various locations in the game - especially with historical routes and scenarios. Not for everybody though, hence my point about "user-configured options." One option might be to turn off all odours completely.

The smell of a hundred domestic coal fires, several industrial processes, a bakery, an urban pig farm(not uncommon at this time) and to top it off, a tannery(they stink like cat pee on steroids) be thankful that TS is NOT in smelly vision!

Hi Simon,
Well I am finally creating on your great route. I am finding it a challenge to figure out where I am at any one time, which is all part of the fun.
I intend doing a 10 part collection, to firstly utilise your route's DLC only, to get used to it. Once I was told Hatchet Hill Quarry is still available (with Warwick Rail's help) to purchase, I thought I would stay with your original version, as it has the ratings.

I'm not sure if I have told you, but the film 'Tread Softly Stranger', was filmed next door to my grandparents house, which looked down on the Parkgate Steelworks from their back wall, and my grandfather did night shifts there. The steelworks is where the film is based, and it was filmed there. As a child I looked down on it all, and trainspotted at the Midland station featured. The 'Pines Express' went through from Bournemouth and the Somerset & Dorset.

So in a nutshell, I really enjoy the visual 'atmosphere' of this route - but where's the smell??!!

@Not.Silent. Hello. Are you absolutely sure that the words "not enough votes" are referring to scenario publication or are they perhaps referring to the display of the green stars - as it does with workshop guide stars. If so we may assume that the route has not yet received 30 thumbs up votes. As I understand it, a route may not be made final unless it has already achieved at least 30 votes. But the above route has been made final - perhaps before the rule requiring 30 votes was increased from the previous level of 15. You say the author is the only one who can publish scenarios for such a finalised route. Have you tried to publish a scenario for this route and if so what did the error message say? I am learning something new every day. It goes against my previous understanding that scenarios could be published for any finalised workshop route. I did not realise there were two conditions required. Anyway, I guess there are lots of strange exceptions to do with old routes (pre 2017).
Not.Silent 2021 年 10 月 5 日 上午 6:21
Hi Warwick. It is because at the top right for me it says not enough ratings. The author can create and publish scenarios, but everyone else has to wait for 30 thumb up ratings.
Warwick Rail 2021 年 10 月 5 日 上午 6:02
@Not.Silent Greetings from the land of railway nostalgia! Peering through the steam, I confess to being somewhat puzzled by your request about thumbs up for this item because this workshop route has been final since 11th November 2016. Anyone should already be able to publish scenarios for it already. There are 4 scenarios currently published in the workshop - the most recent being added in November 2018. See my link the those scenarios below. Remember that Favourites are not the same as Ratings. You should be able to publish a scenario okay. If not there must be some other mysterious reason for the failure and we should investigate.

With Warwick Rail helping out with the availability of Hatchet Hill Quarry, let's try and get some positive thumbs up everyone - so I can create and publish scenarios for Workshop. Come on everyone!

Thank you for that info Warwick Rail

Regarding the Hatchet Hill Quarry's availability. It is still available.

Here is a list of all the workshop scenarios for the route.

Hello again Simon. Thank you for responding so quickly. It is a shame. It was also used by RolandBP for his Whatley Quarry route, so a lot of more recent TS users found they couldn't load it properly.
I am very pleased you are interested in looking into it - so there is a possibility that one day in the not too distant future, I could create/publish on it. Good news. Regards.
Simon Kirkbright  [作者] 2021 年 3 月 16 日 上午 8:46
Not Silent. I didn't know Hatchet Hill had gone. Thats a shame as it had the industrial 03/04 in it.I will have a look and see what can be done to remove H.H. items from the route.
Not.Silent 2021 年 3 月 15 日 下午 4:07
Hello Simon. You have done a great job with this - but I can't publish on it as it does not have enough positive ratings. Hatchet Hill's demise unfortunately will limit the route's appeal.

What do you think of the possibility of reworking this without Hatchet Hill Quarry (not available now)?

If you reworked it a little, and published again, I could immediately drum up support to get votes (I have a lot of support now) to then allow me to create/publish on it.

Excellent route - so much trackwork I almost got lost! Very much appreciated, has provided hours of enjoyment.

"it would be nice to add some stations in this"....I thought long and hard about that very subject and I was considering one station and a Main Line connection with the system. However, looking through the Steam Workshop routes Main Lines abound, comming second only to Branch Lines and most of these are to a standard that I couldn't hope to match. Having been a Guard for British Rail based at Manchester Victoria, my most vivid memories are not off the Mian Line sprints but off the shunting, running round and marshalling that goes on behind the scenes. Also I really like the two 0-4-0 saddle tank DLC packs available from steam and wanted somewhere to run them.

With WORKING freight cars that you can load and unload. That is one thing that really ticks me off about Clear Creek. a MINING ROUTE that you can't load cars at the mines!

" IMO, it would have been a lot more interesting if they had made it Corris in its heyday."
Yes sarg, couldn't agree more. Lets hopwe some brave soul produces a Marketplace pack of older stock for the line. HINT HINT. I don't do nice tourist happy clappy routes as you can tell from It's Grim up North, hopefuly the new route will work out looking about right:steammocking:
sergeant_0ddball 2017 年 1 月 18 日 上午 9:45
Nice! I have Corris, and I am a little disappointed, tbh. The only other NG route on here is Clear Creek, and that is the entire division, besides the line to Denver, and how the route appeared at its peak. It is a WORKING railroad, not a tourist operation. Corris, on the other hand, is a tourist operation. IMO, it would have been a lot more interesting if they had made it Corris in its heyday.
Simon Kirkbright  [作者] 2017 年 1 月 18 日 上午 1:43
Thanks Sergeant, this route was made before I found out about DEM data and so was built on the flat, apart from the canal bridge. My next route is based on the Corris DLC and has 1 in 23 grades and a zig-zag
sergeant_0ddball 2017 年 1 月 17 日 下午 1:13
My kind of route! Tight, gritty, sharp curves and short trains. all it needs is steep grades and it would be perfect for me.
Simon Kirkbright  [作者] 2016 年 11 月 12 日 上午 12:49
Thanks Ben & TomC. Not sure if the Fireman is grumpy about going to work or worn-out going home.

I love that first image of the fireman.... "Its grim up North" He looks so grumpy about going to work! XD Lovely route as well!

Thanks Simon. Changing over now.

This is the finished and final version of this industrial route. Previous version can be found in my workshop collection, unfortunatly that one got made final before I uploaded the final update, and locked even me out of it. As this is very much a "one man effort" the idiot who pressed "make route final" was me, which proves true what my Grandchildern think about me an technology ;-)
