Just noticed your post. I had the same problem, but I think it is a problem with the route rather tyhan the scenario. Try just waiting for well over a minute. When I did that the game eventually "un froze".
You could have used an EWS liveried Class 66 instead of the BR266, as "Euro Cargo Rail" use these in Southern France in original EWS livery apart from their own branding and a new small warning panel at the ends.
If you plan any more French workshop scenarios, I have done a few "French" repaints of DTG published stock over on Railsim.fr...https://www.railsim-fr.com/forum/index.php?/files/ ( search for springer6 ). These would be allowed on the Workshop and are probably fine for AI at the least.
