It can destroy the buildable parts of the ship; not the backgrounds though.

BOB the hazmat no it was spesifically made to have no impact on humans or any other kind of lifeform

Yes it does damage NPCs , this like the vanilla bomb but buffed

This thing is pretty useful to use to make a bit of a space for building. Not as strong, but it's still useful for making a space.

Build an anvil; upgrade it once and you'll see it in the consumables tab.

if someone could make a laser designated orbital strike of some sort that would be really dank, maybe ion laser or nuke drop :DDDDDDD maybe have you build a console or machine inside your ship for the drop, and have the ammo cost X credits or materials to build.
