Not much else to narrow it down, since Kaefer is a very popular name in Germany.

Best guess is a program such as terragen. All these skyboxes were made sometime around c.2007-2009 so it would have to be an older program that existed within that time frame.

It is a pity that it is impossible to contact him, I would really like to learn from his experience in creating scenes with the sky and landscape.

I actually forgot to include the link, but it was made by Karatekaefer. They made a large amount of skyboxes about 16ish years ago over on GameBanana. This specific skybox is MPA 110, and can be found here:

CS:S has nothing to do with this map, and mounting HL2 does nothing for you except load the map files.

@jhne Same here. And I even have CSS and the HL2s installed as per the usual leech games.

I'm working on fixing it. The map needs to be massively optimized, and as-is borderline won't compile until I do.

Yeah, the map uses the tree models from GM_Forest. While you could play it fine without Forest, and just deal with the checkboard trees and/or Remover tool them, this is simpler and less time consuming for everyone, including you.

All of the leaves on the trees are purple and black checkers. Any ideas?

Cool concept, but what content is required to get rid of the errors? I have hl ep 1 and 2, css, portal, and tf2 content mounted already, I don't know what other game I might need.
