Unfortunately there is no way other than to embed your files into Rise of Nations' master files, or have the music available as part of a mod. I'm sorry.

Hello is their anyway to upload a music mod to Rise of Nations Workshop? it always fail to read my sound file for some reason

It appears that RoN's music finally works properly due to a patch in August http://psteamproxy.yuanyoumao.com/news/?appids=287450

So fingers crossed, we won't need to use this mod in future. Thanks again for making it FooBar!

Soooo not sure if this mod is really still supported (should be, not sure how people play with in-game music otherwise) but figure I'll give it a shot.

A lot of the time when I load up a singleplayer game the mod just doesn't seem to do anything. It will be a game that I have played with the script running and the mod working normally, but when loading it back up the console just sits waiting for mood info to be sent and apparently not receiving any?

There also seems to be some issue with pausing. Sometimes I've set the game to start paused, or I've loaded a game paused, and the console enters a continuous loop, displaying:

Exception: WasapiOut is not initialized
Setting music mode: paused

These two lines loop until interrupted with a command like playing the win/lose music. But regardless it never seems to be able to recover from this, requiring everything be restarted.

Excuse me FooBar, I had a thought about a music mod that changed the main battle theme music in game. Could you contact me via steam? I know nothing of programing and thought you would make the thought flourish to life.

@Knorssman - I realize it is seven months later, but I finally added in your feature request (for displaying what buttons to click for the win/lose music) as well as another feature from @[HK] WilliamW.

I think I could fix this problem by adding an entry in App.config and read from it, and if this config is missing, then fall back to this default. :steamhappy:

@[!?] TacticalSheltie - I think you're right. Looking back on some of my code (here is just one example: https://github.com/TypicalFooBar/Rise_of_Music/blob/master/Rise_of_Music_Solution/Rise_of_Music/Program.cs#L254 ), I realize that it uses the "C:\" drive as a hard-coded value. I'm not sure what it would take to determine which drive Rise of Nations is installed on. Thanks for the info!


@ZeroX - Glad it's helping you! I love the music in this game and was sad when the music was bugged in the steam release. It's a shame they have never patched it, but at least by writing this mod, it has allowed people to have a decent workaround.

For those having issues with file not found or file being used by another program errors, it may happen if you have RoN installed on a separate hard drive than whatever Steam is installed on. I moved RoN over to my steam install and it works properly now.

That's a good idea, Knorssman - should be easy to add this to the console output when it has been started up. I might have time to get to it this week, but if you know how to code then you are also more than welcome to submit a pull request to the github repo, and i can push it to the Steam Workshop afterwards.

For anyone who may be experiencing problems with this mod, please be sure you've read the instructions in their entirety. Also, please feel free to help out by looking at the source code, which is on github - any contributions are welcome. I use this mod with four other people, all without any problems - I can't test it on every possible setup, though, but the source code is available for you to use as you wish. :)

I was going to give this a shot, but I have to say that after the little incident I had, with it bringing a 6 core Win7 computer to a crawl upon launch of RoN, with constant beeps every time mouse is moved and inability to close it requiring a reset, I'll stick to no music...

If you have a "WasapiOut is not initialized" exception or a similar exception for DirectSound, then I was able to make a quick (but likely dirty) fix for that. Code available here https://github.com/MHLoppy/Rise_of_Music

If you have a "File not found" exception and have your RoN install somewhere other than: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Rise of Nations\sounds\tracks\
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Rise of Nations\sounds\tracks\
then you can probably get a quick and dirty fix going by copying the tracks folder to one of those locations (if you're on a 64-bit Windows then the first path, if you're on 32-bit Windows then the second path).

Doesn't work for quick battle matches against the computer. The age advanced and the music still doesn't resume like it's supposed to.

And it's not just one track, there is no music whatsoever coming from it. I can see that it's setting music moods but it doesn't do anything. Shame.

Not getting this to work. Followed the guide but when I'm in-game no music plays at all. The RoM window has 'exception: file not found' when trying to play the economic track. For others such as age_up and battle_defeat, I get no exception message but still no music.
