Well, I was thinking if the player could just craft a boat and use it freely on the rivers or sea. Or the balloon.

In what way? There are currently no terrain modifications, it's only adding to small existing camp layers to add the docks at the start and end locations.
I intend on not modifying terrains to try keep it compatible with as much as possible

Will there ever be a standalone version only for the items (boats, balloons) without the map modifications?

I would also set up NPCs at the departure points to collect a symbolic fare.

Why park the balloons on the new platform so high up? By the time I get there, I can walk to the oasis. Maybe they should install an elevator there?
